Personally I don't find it embarrassing, more an unwanted distraction from the main job, the league. At a time when more and more clubs are complaining about the strains on small squads they stick another competition in. Its also a bit like the FA cup where the bigger clubs don't start taking it seriously until the later rounds ( LJ couldn't buy a win at one bit but somehow managed to win in the JPT) To compare it to the Vase and Trophy isn't a fair comparison , they are there surely to be a competition for semi pro teams who don't generally have any hope to get very far. As I said before each to their own and good luck to everybody who are going and I do hope we win.
I seem to remember being more concerned with the relegation battle we were in and the players who thought the league hardly mattered because we'd got to wembley. As I say, had we got the the final I'd maybe have been a bit more bothered or a play off final no question. Cups for me are a unwanted distraction, I'd probably get rid of them all except the CL and maybe the FA Cup nevermind this tin pot one. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Have these people who arnt going due to it being a tin pot cup and embarrassing etc stopped watching us in the league too? Why would you watch us play in the league one but not go to Wembley to watch us play in the cup final for teams in our league. Were in league 1, this is where we are and these are the teams we are playing. Are we not in a tinpot league.
You weren't bothered about the FA Cup Semi Final? Seriously? That was our best chance since 1912 of winning the top domestic knockout trophy and a distinct possibility with the quality of the teams left in it. While I can see your point about the JPT, that comment is just ludicrous.
Just out of interest when we were in the old second division how many of you went to the Zenith Data Cup ties or The Anglo Italian cup ties ?
I feel sorry for you if you genuinely get excited about some 3rd rate pointless competition. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Oh I went, I was there but found the whole day pretty underwhelming for a game I really didnt overly get too excited about. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Quite a few actually. When we reached the Semi Final of the ZDS in 1990/91 there were 10,287 there v Everton.
Ye but you have travelled to Germany to see a game I recall in past posts? I'm not judging you or criticising by the way.
I have indeed mate, new stadiums/atmospheres to experience, weekend away with a few mates, can't beat it. I've been to the new Wembley twice(Barnsley and England), both ridiculously expensive and tedious trips. You can criticise me if you want, doesn't mean I'll listen though
Its like that at oakwell most days so if you can't get excited in a cup final at Wembley when can you.what's the point?
I'm going with my mates to see my club play at the most iconic football stadium in the world. Can't bloody wait.
I haven't just seen a number of Barnsley reserve games, I've seen Barnsley reserves away from home. If I can go watch that I'm sure as **** going to see us at Wembley. I can't even begin to understand why a Barnsley fan wouldn't want to go. It just doesn't compute in my head.
I'm not going but it has nothing to do with desire. Would love to be there, it's Barnsley at Wembley. Foolishly booked our family holiday and never thought to look at JPT final date back in November. I'll have sky go on the iPad through a vpn network which should mean we can watch the game live. Not exactly like being there but hopefully plenty of reasons to cheer.
