    Who's said they have?
    It's an historic England grant.

I believe it was once owned by the Adams Family.

If its the one I am thinking of , it's old. I could be wrong but I always thought that the building had a blue plaque or similar in recognition of James Hudson Taylor, a methodist missionary to China in the 1800's.

It was originally intended to be called The Old Royal Oak Hotel..It was owned by James Fox & Son, Wine and Spirits Merchant, Regent St...Fox also owned The Isle of Axholme Brewery at Crowle.

Was Scene and Heard another record shop in that general area too?

Loved Casa Disco. Bought you my first album there - Ramones.

I've done a bit of googling and it's definitely older than the 80s. Found a photo from 1979 and compared it to the latest Google Street view from a few months ago.

Absolutely wish they'd do something similar with all the stone buildings around town and the simple clean signage makes all the difference too. If boots used a more heritage logo rather than the in your face blue banner I think their store would look much better too

Been into town this afternoon to have a look after reading what you've said and blimey the pictures don't do the buildings justice. They look truly magnificent. Standing in front of the bowling alley looking up between the bars and the library proves that when done right the modern and the old can sit alongside each other perfectly and compliment each other in a way that's actually quite beautiful.

Couldn't help but look around town at all the other buildings again and I know money is tight but it's a real shame that we can't find some to take care of all the other old buildings because we truly have some cracking ones if people actually look above the signs.
People have often said that Barnsley council removed all our heritage in the 70s (or whenever it was done) but in reality we've got more old buildings in our town centre than most other towns, they just need a bit of tlc.

On a side note the temporary bridge should be getting removed tomorrow night

    Agreed.

With regard to the bridge, there is a sign suggesting road to be closed for three consecutive weekends (overnight) for bridge removal.
