It used to be much more fun. And the players were much better in the old days.

I thought the mung bean reference was a follow up to yesterday's "third world Ali" offensiveness. Hence the edit.

I like the sound of mung beans. I'm going to try a mung bean curry.

A sport that wasn't very professional? When do you think Tendulkar started playing; 1896?

Hemmsy - you may (or may not) be interested in my little claim to fame. When I was in NZ in January / February 1990 (before you were born perhaps) I was introduced to a very young Sachin Tendulkar. I was in the members area at NZ v India, he was 17 years old and making his 2nd Test appearance - if memory serves me right. I commented on a little notebook he had, and in it he had written every detail of how he got out in every innings since he was 10! Talk about a perfectionist - he said the aim was to never get out the same way again.

Anyway, I got talking to him and a couple of the other Indian players and at close of play went out for dinner with them - to Pizza Hut (not quite mungo beans) and back to their team hotel in Auckland. Never forgotten that day, nor the boy that was to become a star. I see that today he's been given India's highest honour. Great sportsman and great bloke.

I have a feeling it was LBW in that innings (I'm sure I can find it on cricinfo if I look hard enough) - but he would write down who the bowler was, where the ball pitched, where his feet were etc etc. Meticulous.

    Nice that.

Been watching what they've been saying about him on TV. The pressure on him back home could make 99% of the population crack. Hes worshiped back.

On the Book it will be so he can check things for the new series. Any thoughts he had he can read and have them at the time. Unfortunately for him the balls that got him out were at times unplayable and the human really couldn't do anything against that. Anderson had him the most i think.
