Correct, you're only allowed one stadium per city with the exception of one city being allowed two stadiums which is generally the city where the national stadium is so yep wembley and the emirates

    London - Wembley
    London - Emirates
    Manchester- Old trafford
    Newcastle - St James' Park
Sunderland - Stadium of light (with capacity increased to 55,500 or even higher)
    Liverpool - Anfield/stanley park
    Birmingham - Villa park
    Leeds - Bellend road
    Middlesbrough - Riverside
    Derby - Pride Park
Norwich - Carrow road (with second tier added to two stands as per their designs)

Yes, and then Manchester would only be allowed to have Old Trafford.

Don't forget Bristol City have plans for a new stadium.

And Portsmouth, if they ever get out of their financial mess.

Seems like stupid rules to me. At least 3 good stadiums going to waste there (Eastlands, WHL and Stamford Bridge), suppose it means it gets spread out a bit but we're only a small country so I don't think it needs to be spread out.

Bristols plan is to build a 30,000 seater stadium and then increase it almost immediately to 40,000 (minimum needed for world cup) which seems a bit odd to me. If they're serious about getting the cup there they should go for 40,000 straight away.

MK dons' stadium cant be ignored either, it's designed to be increased to 45,000 and has the facilities to be considered a 'uefa elite stadium' which must give it the edge on the likes of bumhole lane and swillsbrough.

In essence, why the hell would either of the shitfiel clubs be chosen when theres a list of at least 15 clubs and cities in a better position and with better stadiums.

    Ricoh Arena?

Capacity 32,000 according to worldstadiums.com, l thought it was smaller. Under the minimum capacity though (quick edit!)

you're right on that one, only one city can have 2 venues i.e London. They are trying to use the 2012 Olympic stadium I think which is poor as somewhere like the Emirates, a real football stadium, will miss out.

I'd like it to be in Sheffield.

Much rather jump on the train for 20 minutes instead of going to Manchester, regardless of which team actually plays there.

Rather jump on a train to Manchester

than see either of those two have their grounds refurbished. Especially the Blue Fritzls, look at them now, crowds are down, no money and a run down rusty stadium. If they get this bid then they will have a newly refurbished ground, that will look a lot of a better prospect for new potential chairman to come in, i'm sure a few of the stay aways would return. Its renewed hope for them, something we don't want, i'd rather sit on the train another 30-45mins and visit another ground.

    me too

Didn't realise there was so much hatred for Sheffield the city. I've no time for their football teams but I quite like the place. Had some very good nights out there, loved a lot of bands that have come from there and have a soft spot for the place. Wouldn't particularly like to live there like as it takes you bloody ages to get anywhere.

and again for Euro '96? Is that they only way they can have it done the prospect of England holding a major tournement?

No, John Ryan's now a mute.

Money's run out and his teams struggling. Nothing to gob off about, oh and they can't beat Barnsley for toffee. They'll have the biggest crowd of the season at the KMS this week though........there's a bonfire and fireworks display on.

I'd rather one of our local rivals didn't get an extra 10,000 seats (or more) added to their capacity giving them a huge increase in revenue in the future. There are only so many football fans to go round in south yorkshire and i'd like us to have a fair share of them, not the dee dars.

Neither Sheffield club fills their ground now

Adding more seats won't get more people in. Anyway, we've plenty of space down at Oakwell if anyone else wants to come.

Adding more seats to either Sheffield ground will have absolutely no effect on Barnsley. To be honest, you've got to be daft to think it would.

Do you really want them two to have improved grounds?

and more potential for revenue? There's a lot of stay away wednesday fans at the moment, it shows whenever there's a price reduction the amount of support they can get. A lot of clubs when they move to a new ground or refurbish a current one have a surge in crowds and an air of optimism comes around, they'll think Hillsborough is rising from the ashes again and returning to good days of the early 1990's and fans will begin returning. I couldn't think of many other footballer supporters that would welcome improvements to a rivals football ground.
