I know people who will only eat animals what have been hunted (shot, caught with dogs etc),they wont eat animals that have been reared in cages and then killed by a machine with razor like blades that cut their heads off.Everyone has different views on what they think is ethical.

Re: I must have missed that law being passed

Chill kev... You can pass as many comments as you like. That's not what I was driving at.

I like meat as much as the next man, but whether it's killed to be eaten or whether it's killed for sadistic pleasure, a creature has lost it's life. It's something I find hard to equate/rationalise and I wondered what other people's thoughts were on it.

    There's a world of difference

Between an animal losing it's life for the purpose of it being eaten and it losing it's life in order for someone to take pleasure in the animal's death in the name of sport.

I haven't commented in the thread, but I'm as appalled as anyone who has. I didn't know you were still allowed to shoot lions.

I do, however, eat meat. This means animals are killed. Am I happy about that? No, I'm not as it happens. But killing animals isn't the point when eating meat. If we could eat meat without hurting animals in anyway, we'd have done it years ago. Mankind are constantly trying to do just that. We've had vegetable proteins and soya and quorn and that's all been developed because a lot of us are uncomfortable about killing animals, but as a species we need a certain amount of protein. We're not uncomfortable about eating meat, we like it, a lot, it's packed full of energy and nutrients and it tastes great, so we're sort of programmed to like it, just as we're programmed to like sweet, fatty foods, but we're uncomfortable about killing animals to get it. We get through most weeks by purposely not thinking about it. We now have scientists trying to grow the stuff in the lab for human consumption. When we can do that at a competitive price and it tastes as good as animal meat there'll be a massive change in eating habits.

Hunting is all about hurting animals. Killing them is the whole point. Many people find that abhorrent whether they eat meat or not. It may be hypocritical, but eating food you are genetically programmed to find both nutritious and delicious is a far cry from killing something for the hell of it.

Evil. I sincerely hope that one day soon she is killed, slowly, by an animal she is hunting.

Evil cow. There's a market for these hunting trips unfortunately, obviously for the rich. The animals are bred in captivity on privately owed reserves then the rich fly in to slaughter them. Remember seeing pictures of Donald Trumps sons recently on one of these trips

http://www.bulletsafaris.com/index.html Look how easy it is if you have money. Absolute disgrace

That's fine but let's even things up a bit. Throw the hunters in there with nothing but their own cunning and ingenuity, then let the animals loose. After they've not been fed for a while.

So are advocating a return to the Roman style games? seem to think Nero had that idea with Christians and Lions a few centuries ago

Must admit thats a pretty good response. I guess our problem with this is even those of us who love our dead animals on a plate cant understand why anyone would get pleasure from hunting lions tigers and other big cats just for the thrill of it.
But many from other nations don't have the same views - I just think it's a shame that a beautiful animal like that should end his life in such a way - and I do think big game hunting should be banned but then again I dont have my living dependant on it
