Of course I know it was, but it was also an attempt to prove that the threaded view is better... which it isn't! :p

I realised that Jay! I think by using your name you'll realise who it's in response to!

Apart from you, no one who advocates using the quote function actually uses it, even when they're advocating it, which says to me it's a lost cause.

Does the quote function actually work on smartphones?

I don't think that it's necessary to use the quote function when you're replying to a post that is straight above yours, or if it's clear enough to whom you're replying to anyway.

The longer threads on this forum can be quite confusing and hard to follow indeed, but I guess that's only because people use different display modes (threaded/linear). We should choose one that everyone would use, and then stick with it. :)

In my opinion going back to the threaded view would be a step backwards at this point. I read this BBS quite often on my phone nowadays, and having to click each reply individually to read them (instead of just scrolling the screen up and down to read everything) doesn't sound like too much fun.

Anyway, I think it's more important that we choose just one display mode, ditch the others, and stick with the one that we've chosen. If a lot of people want to go back to the threaded view, then alright, I won't be going anywhere. I would still post on this BBS even if we had to use pen and paper to send our messages... :p Would everyone else accept the change as well though?

I used to love the old version. I also love this version (linear, is it?)

    So do as you please.

I think the threaded mode is awful. On what other forum to you have to click on every single post to read it?

It's especially bad when you're on a phone. It's difficult enough to click on threads rather than the authors profile without then having to click on every single post within it.

Linear mode is used by everyone else everywhere on the internet for a reason. Wasn't there a poll a while back where the most popular was linear anyway?

Agree with that - that point is a good arguement in favour of the linear version which I use now. One click and you get the whole thread. What stopped some people using the old version towards the end was that the board had got so slow, and combined with the threaded concept which means you have to click on each post, it could take half an hour to read the content of one thread. Many a time I used to click on a reply, wait 3 minutes and find that the reply was a dot. :( I could feel my life ebbing away.

I would prefer if the choice was still available - I'd stick to the linear mode now - I'm used to it.

How about a compromise? We leave as it is so people can view wither linear or threaded but if you click "reply" it automatically puts a link back to the post you replied to. Just the message number for example.

There is a threaded option in conjunction with the linear mode. It's called hybrid mode. Just ignore the linear bit and use the threaded if you are mentally challenged and can't work out the linear. This is a general response to the thread, not replying to any particular post, just to br clear like.

As I say, I like both. But if I 'had' to choose, I'd stick with linear. I'm used to it now.

I use Hybrid so get both. The problem is on long threads the window ia too small so can't follow it properly.

I use forum runner on my phone too so will I be able to view in threaded on here? It's **** without it.
