RE: What, the final being on BBC2? The outfield players have improved over the years, some of them are quite skilful, and they all control the ball, strike the ball properly, tackle etc but it is very slow. And the standard of the GK is terrible, partly due to their size for most of them but still, they seem to make a lot of mistakes. In womens football it isn't a poor level, it is the top level. I bet you are watching it.
RE: What, the final being on BBC2? I'd rather watch a "low standard of football" as you put it than more rubbish about bargain hunts, soap operas, house make overs etc. I don't think televising the women's European Final on BBC2 at teatime is OTT.... don't forget it's the fastest growing sport in this country, and for me as a parent, I'd sooner my daughter watch this, than Tracy Beaker for example - a show that teaches girls how to be rebellious & stroppy. I see where you're coming from & I'd never be on a crusade for women's games to be televised weekly, but it is the final, and I think it's fair enough that it's on.
Spot on Regardless of the comparison to the men's game; these players are at the top level. Women will never be as fit or as strong or as fast as men, but if they had the opportunity to play day in day out like male pros then the women's game would be much better in terms of "moves" across the pitch etc. I played 15-20 years ago, and in those days you'd find in a team a couple of very gifted players, a few who thought they were good, and a few cloggers. Alot of players couldn't kick brilliantly with one foot, let alone both. Now you'll find most players are comfortable kicking with both feet, and they are all so much fitter.
RE: yep, hairy bikers shave their armpits I will have to dig out the team photo from when I played at Birmingham City...... frightening. No "Pony tails" in those days let me tell you. Definitely no "models" in the team. Just a bunch of short fat women with short spikey hair, tattoos galore .... and me. (angel)
I'd intended to but got stuck at work Was going to see if it was on Iplayer but then found out the score and lost interest a bit Most important question - did they swap shirts at the end of the game - or any goalscorers take off their shirt and wave it around their heads like the men do?
