Without Govt guidelines or instructions a lot of people could lose their livelihoods doing that .

It’s a legal requirement to send kids to school unless they are closed or the child is sick.

You could always home school if you felt so strongly. I think it's best schools are kept open for as long as possible for educational reasons and if schools and nurserys all close then the childcare element comes in many people will have to stay at home to look after their children. I do think it's a matter of time before schools and nurserys close as the situation gets worse. If it carrys on like it is this virus will cost the economy billions and will leave many large and small businesses bankrupt.

I’ve a feeling they will close on Friday. I have to say, this is a personal feeling and I am not ‘in the know’ but I’ve heard that particular rumour too many times now.

On homeschooling, please see my reply below.

Only if you plan to actually withdraw your child from the school and forfeit their place, you can’t just decide you’re homeschooling them today and not tomorrow etc. otherwise anyone who fancies a holiday or a few days off could just say they are homeschooling that week and avoid the fines. The school may allow it in the current climate but they don’t have to. That doesn’t mean people won’t keep them off anyway against the law of course.

I'm sure in a case like this where you contacted the headteacher or governors and said you felt so strongly about the virus and would be home schooling there child until further notice they would see your point.

I suspect so too but it will still go down as an absence and it’s up to the individual schools whether they authorise it or not. It’s not as simple as just saying anyone who’s worried can just homeschool.

can you just imagine some of the home education off certain members of this board: there was once a kindly old man called jeremy and if you disagree with this then you're tory scum. i think this country ( world ) is facing something that no civilisation has so far faced ( black death aside when it could take a month for news to travel 30 miles) and there are going to sadly be wrong answers and because of this people are going to lose their lives, not through politics but because no one knows the rights and wrongs of the global scenario, my opinion for what its worth is, its down to hope, commonsense and pure dumb luck and that folks is just as valid/wrong as anyone elses opinion
