I started watching from the 1950s. There was no violence then; it was when the idiots of the late 60s and 70s, like you Nudger, decided to change it from a sport where spectators were entertained, to one where folk were scared to take their kids. We had half a dozen cops to marshal fans at derby matches, and we mixed with the opposition fans. We did not resort to physical or verbal abuse of the opposing fans, and the crowds were greater for matches against wednesday and United back then. You and your ilk caused the massive drop in gates, the fencing of football crowds, and indirectly the Hillsborough tragedy. Rant over.
