    Dear Sir/Madam,

I'm writing to draw your attention to a breach of Football League rules carried out by Sheffield Wednesday in their Championship game against Stoke City on 29/03/08:

47.3.1 A maximum of 5 loan Players (either Short Term or Long Term) can be named in the sixteen Players listed on a team sheet for any individual Match. This figure shall include any additional loan of a goalkeeper approved by the Executive under the
    provisions of Regulation 49

Sheffield Wednesday clearly breached this rule by including six loan players on their team sheet. Furthermore Sheffield Wednesday gained a clear advantage when one of those players, Frank Songo'o, scored late on to draw the match and earn Sheffield Wednesday a point.

I trust you will investigate this matter and that appropriate action will be taken, as was stated when Leeds United breached this rule I would expect it would result in a replay and/or three point deduction.

    From the Sunday Mirror:

Sheffield Wednesday are facing a Football League investigation after they fielded six loan players in their squad to face Stoke yesterday.

League regulations prohibit a club from naming more than five loan players in their match-day 16, but an oversight by the Wednesday coaching staff means the Owls appear to have fallen foul of the rule.

With Wednesday fighting to stay in the Championship, the club face the prospect of a possible points deduction - which would seriously threaten their status in the divsion.
The web page has been moved around a bit. That may explain the difficulty. This is the text:

A spokesman from the Football League said: "We will be examining the team sheets on Monday and we will not comment on what action will be taken."

The six players in question are Graham Kavanagh (Sunderland), Ben Sahar (Chelsea), Adam Boulder (Queens Park Rangers), Enouch Showunmi (Bristol City), Bartosz Slusarski (West Bromwich Albion) and Franck Songoio (Portsmouth), who scored Wednesday's late equaliser in yesterday's 1-1 draw.

Of the six loan players, Poland international Slusarski was the only player not to play a part in the game as he remained on the bench for the full 90 minut

3 pts. Got to be. If it is true that they have stated it will be 3pts if it happens again after Leeds "confusion". And sent the clubs specific letters explaining this. Or is all that just gossip?

I think they'll get points deducted - its only fair

    They're Sheffield Wednesday after all

Hopefully the fact that one of the loan players equalised should swing it. Think it will be just one point mind and stoke will be given all three.

Its a tough one for the FL though or FA whoever makes the decision because it will have repercussions on both ends of the table and a number of teams.

In fairness to Stoke, Wednesday have broken the rules and it has been to Stoke's detriment.

I don't think they award points to other clubs

They deduct points and can also order game to be replayed

    why?

when clubs field ineligable players and gain points then they have those points deducted, this has always been the case.

A simple 3pt deduction for breaking a rule. That is all it should be.

    Doubt anything will happen

They are letting Southampton sign Lucketti on loan even though they missed the deadline

    different view (SW)

Whilst it looks like we breached the rule, I don't see how anyone can argue that it influenced the result given that only 4 of them played at any point during the game.

So for me, any points penalty would be totally unjust and I would be very surprised at such an outcome.

As to why it happened, we will have to wait and see what the explanation is.

which just goes to show some fowk will let their mouths say owt (so to speak)

What I read was if they'd won any points - I'm assuming it's to give the other ckub chance to gain the points.

Maybe they remove the points won AND deduct 3 points, then replay game, so at best Wednesday would be able to get to the points total they had prior to the game.
