too right

for that argument to have any logic then the rule would be 5 players on the pitch at any one time, where as it is within the 16.

They've broken the rules and used it to their advantage.

    Agreed

Even if they only had 3 on the pitch, by having 3 on the bench it gave the manager options as to who he could bring on and how he could change the game if required.

Not saying they shouldn't get punished

can't think of a more deserving club, but I rekon most people on this board are wanting it purely 'cause it might just get us out of a tight spot

If they get away with it we should try playing Lewin and Macken next week

    and your point is?

No doubt all clubs involved in the relegation battle will be pressing for a points deduction

Rather it be us than Wednesday.

    Well, Leeds got fined

In the game vs Burnley that caused the furore, 3 loanees (Graham Stack, Matt Heath and Ugo Ehiogu) started with 3 more (Tony Warner, Tresor Kandol and Geoff Horsfield) on the bench. One was an unused sub (Warner), so only five participated and Leeds lost the game 2-1.

So it is definitely number of loanees in the match day squad that matters and not the number who actually participate. Wednesday gained a point with an illegal 16-man squad and so should have that point deducted and a significant fine at the very least.

Personally I’d like us to survive by doing so off our own backs, can you imaging the relentless crap that’ll be spouted by our illustrious neighbours in S6 for years to come as to how “unfairly” they were treated (cheating gets though they are!)

    trouble is, of course...

This kind of thing sometimes galvanises teams in the short term - like Leeds. They'll probably get the points deducted and in their anger win the next 5 matches.

They'll get 1 point maximum deduction (if any). Looking at their run-in I can't see them going down anyway.
    Wish it was Southampton....!

Thats what I think but why should it just be one point?

It looks like they've tried to con the system. Surely it should be more than just the one they picked up?

Three points deducted and match replayed I think. They can't just award the points to Stoke and the result could be worth £30m+ come the end of the season.

    You're crackers

You don't really mean that Stanley. So you'd think that the edge had been taken off our survival (if we do indeed survive) because Wednesday had been punished for being cheating fookers?

They'll get fined and told off

Based upon what Leeds got for the same offence. Which isn't the end of the world for them.

Bury got kicked out of the FA cup for fielding an inelligible player, but I've a feeeling it's a much more serious offence to play someone you don't have permission to play -as opposed to playing too many players that you do have permission to player.

As a Wednesdayite, my gut feeling is we'll lose the point from this game - and I think that's a fair punishment. My only hope is that the club don't turn it into a three ring circus and have a march on Parliament demanding justice like the mardyarses from Sheffield 2.
