You could have argued the same when the squad contained Lannin, Young, Walcott, O-C etc. I just look at our recent squads and fail to get anywhere near excited.

Yeah, I see where you're coming from mate. Certainly on the world scale, it's an ordinary squad...no question. There's been plenty of negativity about England tournament squads (probably and rightly due to the fact that they've let us down in the past) However, I feel that with the weight of expectation lifted and with the number of promising young players with better technique than in the past, there's more to be cheerful about. Add to that the fact that we're more of a goal threat bodes well.

The Chile game was a wake up call and I don't think we are contenders by any means. But we're going into a tournament with a bunch of relatively young and untried and therefore unscathed footballers on form. Got to be a positive.

I'm presuming you're classing Welbeck as someone only there because he plays for Man Utd?

Who are better? Defoe & Lambert definitely aren't in my opinion & Carroll's not in great form.

He's going through lack of options. There's only Rooney & Sturridge better than him & he gives Roy the option of going with a front 3 as he can go wide

You're probably right, as we don't have many options, with Rogriguez being injured too. But if Welbeck hadn't come through the ranks at Man United and was playing elsewhere I don't think he'd have got a look in. I also don't think Manchester United would have signed him, had he been plying his trade elsewhere, and I couldn't see him moving to a top 8 club when he leaves Man United.

Henderson and Milner with Cleverly on standby. Pointless six yard square balls to the max. Can't we find room for Parker and Barry too?

He flatters to deceive for me, scores good goals but his ratio is 1 in 4. He's only 23 though so time yet..

It's worrying ain't it. I remember the late 90's when we had great strength in depth in Shearer, Sherringham, Owen, Cole & Fowler & then you look at the mid 00's & we had Rio, Sol, Terry, Carragher, Woodgate & King who were all quality centre backs & we've got nowhere near as much strength in depth
