    I really don't know how you can think that CT. We've been up and down in the last 15 years but it's not been short on memorable occasions.

    1985 - 2000 was the best period in our history, 2000 to present has been very poor in comparison. Two equal blocks = fair.

    It's subjective int it though really? If I say I enjoyed one period of our history more than an other, no can really tell me I'm wrong.

    Ok so the child has me on ignore, and still hasn't apologised. Someone ask him if he's that pissed off there's a vacancy on a Monday night on the local radio station to air his views. He won't though he prefers to moan on Radio Sheffield.

    Excellent moving of the goalposts there. So let's gave a look

    So the best period in our history kicked off with the miners strike attendances about 4,000. 1984/5 season kicked off with us bottom of the league. We had our worst ever start to the season. Our club then became so skint under Clarkey that you could pay a 100 quid to sit on the bench and without the launch of the centenary society we would be have gone out of business in 1986. We then were treated to many years of mid table mediocrity mainly at the wrong end of the table for example in Anderson's season as manager we were bottom 6 the whole season. We then finished 6,10 for 2 years. Good but not spectacular. So in effect your best ever period starts in the promotion year and ends a couple of seasons later at Wembley following a relegation and after Hendrie pissed away the Wilson team and we finished lower end of the table. So in those fifteen years we have 2 good seasons. 3 if you count getting relegated from the premiership.

    In the following fifteen years we have probably had 2 good seasons a Promotion and FA Cup semi final so not vastly different. Again we almost went out of business and we got relegated twice not once having had many mediocre seasons in the championship. Again not vastly different.

    Where did we finish in 1984-5? How many times have we bettered that since 2000? Same question for 1986-7, 1987-8 and so on and so on. 1989-90 was the only bad season and that was about average for any since 2000.

    Since 2000 our highest finish was sixteenth in the second tier in 2001. Off the top of my head we only finished 16th or below on one occasion from our return to the second tier in 1981/2 to the end of the millennium.

    If you think those two periods are similar then that is up to you. I can only assume you're crackers.

    Were you around in the mid 80s? If you think Oakwell is depressing now you'd have loved it then. Your argument was that this was some sort of glory period it clearly wasn't from Our second season after promotion under Hunter until Danny took over it was as mediocre as any other period in our history however if you take the period from when Clarke took over to present it is the best period in our history including the last few years.

    Three of my best experiences as a fan have come in the last few years -away to Huddersfield under Flitcroft, promotion via the play offs and the occasion of a Wembley Semi rank alongside promotion to the premiership and the Clark/Hunter promotions. Thus just doesn't fit in with your everything is **** version of events.

    81/82. a The Hunter team was the best I've ever seen at Oakwell. Total football tarn style.

    My original point was that we had more to shout about between 1978-2000 than we have since then and nothing you have said will change my mind. I could compare all the league positions during the two periods but it would be futile. If I said we just missed out on the play offs to the top tier on three occasions between 1989-95 and reached a cup quarter final (winning away to the league runners up from the previous season), you'd still say "yeah, but I just loved the 3-2 victory at Rushden in 2003". Let's just say we've reached an impasse.

    The only time we just missed out was when they cocked up the Brighton result the rest we were miles away. I was there I know. But as you say an impasse. Not sure you can equate a Wembley appearance and promotion via the play offs with playing Rushden but hey ho if the facts don't fit your argument change them.
