Nope, the computer is a self-build that has worked flawlessly for over 8 months including some resource eating video editing without any qualms whatsoever.

It really is a problem that has just appeared from nowhere without warning.

1st impression is HD failing. Is sound coming from Hard Disc? If it boots check event log for disc errors. If there are any ghost the disc onto a new un quick while its still going.
