RE: Middlesbro / Newcastle early/mid 80s Also ... do you remember that time Aston Villa fans got to Oakwell before everyone else and 'took' over the Ponty, I walked through the turnstile, at the side of the old toilets and quickly turned round. It's maybe the only time I remember sharing the Ponty with opposing fans.

Anyone remember Villa coming and the Ponty being split in two? Only problem was that everyone had to use the one entrance in the middle at the top. Villa fans congregating round the doors, ankle tapping you then glaring at you trying to incite a scrap. Oh happy day!
Bumped into his neighbours on a nightout South Shields, I was a bit pissed up so slagged him off for about half an hour. Mainly based on his awful display at Elland Road in the cup replay when we lost 4-0.

RE: Probably same year they "passed through" Hemsworth on the way home I think the beeches club got smashed that year as well just up from the bell. are you a hemsworth lad then la dent i may know you.
RE: I am indeed , no on holly bank it was the end house near the old holgate school but may not know you seen as you are only a baby ff
My old mum (92yrs and still kicking) used to run the old bars under the stands and my then girlfriend (now wife of many years) used to work on match days, that was in the days of real pork pies (Albert Hirst's). Going back to the early sixties as a scrawny youth I worked on match days used to take stuff from main bar to the others in a weelbarrow, also walked round the pitch selling crisps etc from a tray, one season some bright spark had me selling Hulleys ice cream from a covered tray with a block of ice in the bottom, imagine that in the middle of January (dint sell much) worst job I ever did though, in the very early sixties, was to walk round the pitch at half time with a board on a pole with tote numbers on it, dunt sound bad on the surface, but that board and me was a perfect target for every away fan to pelt with soggy toilet paper, ended up covered in the stuff and looking like a very skinny polar bear. Remember that incident with Mr. Ball senior very well. oh happy days.
What about sneaking into the Ponty from the Social Club? And doing the same at half-time? being able to drink during the match - the little cafe/bar on the corner of the North Terrace/Spion Kop (they used to house the disabled supporters on that corner until the disabled stand was erected). The day the Geordies came to town was unbelievable! I think there were at least 6 pubs that remained closed throughout Saturday evening as a result of the damage that was caused. The Geordies were also involved in a series of clashes with the police that day which resulted in a few officers being taken to hospital, and then there was the parrot story! Anyone remember Leeds' first visit when Winny Campbell terrorised Kevin Hird? We won 2-1 and there were bouncers stood on virtually every pub doorway in the town centre that day.
Always remember the trolley that used to get pushed around the ground selling refreshments!!! Also, I can remember sitting on the Ponty wall when I was about 9 years old. This particular game was Vs Ipswich and we won 5-1. During the game, a bloke about 45 collapsed and was took out on a stretcher and passing me at the front of the Ponty. I realised this person was my old mans father-in-law to be at the time (his gf was at the match with us but they were stood in the middle!). I never said anything to them until after the match when my dad said "that bloke who got stretchered out as missed a treat!!!"...... I actually got thanked by my dad for not saying anything!!!!!
And what about the St John's ambulance workers that used to sit on the pitch side? I got knocked out at the 75/76 barnsley v Cambridge game when a ball hit me full in the face whilst sitting on a crash barrier behind the away dugout. The following year i got hit on the back of the head by a red cushion which was thrown from the main stand after we had lost 4-3 at home to Exeter.
Winston Campbell a man of many words.... Mainley "Errrrr " and "Yeah" Anyone see his interview after that Leeds game? It was like someone had forgotten to wind him up at the back.
