As stupid as the batsmen were the bowlers are literally having no luck and can’t exert enough pressure. A lack of pace compounds this too and a captain who is clearly not thinking with a clear mind doesn’t help
It's a **** show. The bowling department is too much the same (military medium that wouldn't trouble minor counties players) and the lack of a front line spinner was nothing short of embarrassing. It's looking likely that this lot will have the shame of being the first England team in 20+ years to lose an ashes series on home soil.
This must surely be the last series for Anderson and Broad, if not their last test. Tongue looks like he's got a bit of pace and spirit. There must surely be a couple of others who can do at least as good as them 2.
I can't without having a trawl through crickinfo. But there's 3 here bowling 78mph and keeper's stood up to Anderson. What I'm getting at is a couple of promising up and coming lads can't do much worse while still gaining experience. They've got to end sometime, and it looks like soon.
Well, hopefully Wood will eventually be fit to bowl and Oli Stone may play for Notts tonight after a lay off. Probably our two fastest bowlers, big call to risk both in a Test though, one or both liable to break down. Still think Broad's more than capable of taking plenty this summer.
After the Ashes there’s the return of Archer due … surely. He must have had 3 or 4 ops on his elbow which isn’t encouraging to say the least. 3 years ago we had Archer, Wood, Anderson and Broad and now we’ve got Wood who we’re frightened to pick in case he breaks down, Anderson who is approaching 41, Archer who hasn’t played for 2 years and Broad who is still good but will pack in within a couple of years.
Australia won the first test with a combined both innings RR of 0.1 less than ours, so they were as much Bazball as us.
If you fancy scrolling through the entire day of text commentary on Cricinfo you'll see it Think it was 4.2 something for us and 4.1 something for them.
Broad did well at Edgbaston. Can't help but feel Anderson should have gone 12 months or so ago on his own terms. He's looking completely out of sorts and maybe this is the end for him.
Just rewatched the first episode of The Test. Think the Aussies have the right approach by letting individuals do what they do best rather than everyone feeling they have to be on the front foot all the time.
Whatever it is, they’re better than us in every department. They’ve even got Mr Root playing reckless shots and racing down the pitch and getting stumped ! At Edgbaston, he was out stumped for the first time in his first class career. It suggests that he may be under instructions to play against his natural game …. which is pretty good as we all know !!!!
https://www.espncricinfo.com/series...alia-2nd-test-1336044/ball-by-ball-commentary It won't take long scroll down to 21.3 and underneath it says this...
Ok I thought you were comparing our rate to their rate for both innings combined ( in the first test ). Anyway, worry not we lost that’s the main thing
