That's where the game has been lost. Not bairstow

1/3. We've lost a third of the team for one run, against a team a bowler down. What a collapse. 2 down embarrassing. I'm sure people will be happy with losing again like at Christchurch and Edgbaston calling it entertaining.

But Bairstow failed with the bat as well, and Pope and Brook got absolute Jaffas in the second innings, while Bairstow gave his wicket away by being stupid.

I suppose that's one way of looking at it, if you completely ignore the context.

Bairstow 10 and the stupidest loss of a wicket of the lot. Plenty of blame to go around.

    Agree to disagree.

Bairstow tapped his foot in the crease is my opinion.

But you can't get away for the shyster of runs the above batters got.

Absolutely rubbish scores irrespective of bairstow being taken out

I think I conflated the two things, I can think Bairstow is massively at fault and still believe they should have withdrawn the appeal.

Tapping his foot is irrelevant, it’s the umpire that calls over, not the batter. 5 of the top 7 failed. Struggling to see why you’d exempt one of them but not the others.

Most teams in the world would have said no, we’re not taking that wicket but take the warning batsman. That’s playing the game the right way but this is Australia. They might generate the atmosphere by playing in this dishonest way but it’s “not cricket “ as the saying goes.

I'm not exempting him. It's just this board have single handedly pointed at bairstow. And it isn't. Is what my pont is. As pointed out by the crappy scores our opening batsmen have registered

I must’ve missed the posts saying he’s solely to blame. All the batters are culpable, in the first innings in particular.

But to be honest, I think this series was lost before a ball was bowled with the stupid selections of dropping Foakes and bringing Moeen back into the test side

54 hits to the body so far, highest ever for a test match.

Bouncers have their place in cricket but at what point do we have to remind ourselves what happened to Phil Hughes? It's like when England fans were celebrating Steve Smith not being able to continue a few year ago.

No. If we’d got to this stage with another wicket or two in hand, maybe. But no chance now

    Too much now imo.

Heroic from stokes, but it only took that one smash to be caught.

We looked dead and buried until he went for it

We'd have to get lucky multiple times to win this, they only have to get lucky once.

If we win this from here it'll be a miracle.
