Personally, I think the Bairstow stumping was a cheap way to get a wicket, and wouldn’t particularly like a team I support to do that. But, if i was stokes and mccullum, I’d be giving Bairstow an absolute rocket. Sheer dumb play. The umpires might’ve moved a fraction, but Stokes hadn’t left his ground at the other end because he knew over hadn’t been called.
On the flip side, look at Stokes at the other end. He’s not left the non-striker’s crease. Snide from Carey, but thick as mince from Bairstow.
Because he thought the ball was dead because the umpire had turned his back to give the bowler his cap back. Bairstow was neither attempting a run or in the process of making a shot. It was clear he thought the ball was dead and was doing what all batsmen do between overs going for a chat with his batting partner, at best it was a cheap shot at worst it was premeditated bad sportsmanship and to repeat a much used phrase it simple wasn't cricket.
I can't imagine a situation in which the Aussies aren't going to be booed on to the field. It could be quite tasty!
Dunno why you think the home of Root, Brook, and Bairstow would boo the Aussies. I can't see the laid back western terrace being as rowdy as the Lords toffs were.
no but with responses like that I’m rapidly getting the picture. I just responded to your post where you basically called me a fool, ands I gave an alternative opinion based on what you had said
Having woken up this morning and rewatched it I'm more annoyed at Jonny than I was yesterday Dolly daydream doesn't cover it! No clue where the ball was, didn't look round once. If he'd not have been out that ball he'd have been out soon after, total lack of concentration!
I suppose the other thing - bearing in mind that Jonny is the keeper - is that the Aussies better not stray an inch out of their crease at Headingley! Also, I wouldn't be at all surprised if Stuart whips somebody's bails off on his run-up!
He should wait till the umpires actually call over. I think the movement of the umpires is being exaggerated slightly. The one thing that irritates me about it all is that Bairstow doesn't once turn around to look where the ball is, before wondering out of his crease. It's just schoolkid stuff, and indefensible.
I hope everyone in the ground lets them know very loudly what we think of them. Well, I say we - obviously some think the Aussies are just lads playing the game within the rules and who would never cheat their opponents
They play within the rules (cough). Like Greg Chappels underarm bowl when the opposition needed a 6 off the last ball. What annoys me is that they all whoop and cheer a deceitful dismissal. Not one looked sheepish or thought that looked a bit tacky.
Aggers BBC report is the best summary of the incident that I’ve read. It’s very succinct and relevant
They don't care. Remember, Smith was bold as brass in his first press conference after the sandpaper incident, saying it was just something to give them a little advantage.
Also remember that Cummins, Starc, Hazelwood and Lyon all bowled with a sandpapered ball but weirdly never noticed anything up with it. They did a hatchet job on Warner as he took all the brunt but they were all in on it.
Aye …. If they truly hadn’t noticed that the ball had been sandpapered, then there would have been no point in doing it in the first place.
