I was too in my shell when I played. Either opened or batted down the order. Had every shot in the nets but clammed up in the middle.
Very interesting. Then to add to the lineage of your list, Atherton in the 90s, Gower in the 80s etc etc. Seems to almost be in the job description. Even Boycott has the distinction of being a Grammar school boy (getting in on his cricketing ability).
The biggest obstacle to becoming a cricketer is which school you went to. The class system is absolutely everything.
Tbh Steven I've never played. Only knockabout, In house (school), and works tournament cricket. Football has ruled most of my life. But I do like most other sports only as a spectator. Now and again Rugby league (fev) Dont like union. Cricket (Yorkshire mainly 50/20 overs. Can't do with the 4 day game. Although look out for results. But won't follow the 100. A game too far for me with no real connection apart from being northern) I only usually tune into test matches after the 1st innings. But Stokes has excited me with his take on entertainment for the crowd. Used to go watch Steelers. Basketball once. Never again. But whatever it is. like it or not. I want us to win. Be it Individuals. Or any that fit the list :- Local (Barnsley) County. Country. UK. And Europe eg. Ryder cup. Love the Mosconi cup. (Pool) All that from 21 runs lol. Did you nod off.
Unbelievable comeback in this series great to see. Would be unreal if they could win the whole thing.
Lost me tbh. We need 3 points from 4 to win the ashes. 1 win and a draw at worst. Else the Aussies retain em. Edit, sorry, I didnt notice the time of your post.
Said it before but worth saying again that if they regain from 6-0 down against the greatest sports team on the planet, they should get SPOTY team of the year over Man City and England Under 21s. Today is the first time since Feb 2017 against New Zealand they have lost three in a row. Six and a half bloody years ago. Before today they had won FIFTEEN ODIs in a row. Incredible team.
