Cant believe we're bowling. Daft decision having gone for 4 an over. It's the Aussies moving the game on now.
I had to stop watching every time ozzie scored a run ,I thought my god why are we bowling having won the toss.
Looks like you’ve a good days cricket ahead… There’s only been 10 overs bowled at Headingley in Yorkshire game
I reckon if we ultimately lose the series and Australia win the Ashes it's down to bad captaincy. Declaring in the first innings at Edgbaston when Root and Robinson were tonking the Aussie attack all over and then at Lords going after the short ball losing momentum in the first innings. Then in the second looking for the boundary rope all the time so that he had all the strike. He should have ran singles with Broad and that would have opened the field up. Rant for the day lol.
With the rain expected, bowling first is crazy. We need to win, a draw is no good. We should have been batting on this surface and scoring as quickly as possible. Then when we go in for the second innings we know what we need to do to set a target to have a go at winning the game, depending upon how much time we have lost to the rain. If the rain takes away a big part of the game we even have the option of putting them in only needing 150, if there isn’t much time left. It at least gives us a chance of winning the game, even if it is a slim one. Putting them in first, especially on this surface, will see them making a good score, but also using a lot of time up. We then have to reply on a slightly worse pitch and, most likely, in worse batting conditions. When they come back in for their second innings they might not even need to set a score, if we have lost a lot of time, and instead can just bat through for the draw. We’ve made getting a win a lot harder for ourselves than we needed to. But make the most of this test. The last Ashes test north of the Trent until 2031.
With hindsight we should have batted. But at 10.30 the cloud cover was predicted for most of the day and it's always a bit of a guess how the track will play. Also Stokes usually fields first and it's worked well for him more often than not. Pity we won the toss as Cummins said he'd have fielded also....
Bad captaincy all the way through. His 100 at Lords and 80 at Headingley doesn't paper over that for me. I hope he stands down after the Ashes.
The mind literally boggles again. We do exactly what the Aussies would have done and suddenly stokes isn’t fit to be captain. It’s not gone our way and that’s disappointing but we are playing a pretty decent batting line up, we’ve no divine right to bowl them out in the first session
Another poor not out by this umpire. Smith and labuschagne both would have reviewed a 'out' decision. So two reviews lost.
Shane Warne insisted he'd have had 200 more wickets had reviews been available. Not at all easy umpiring though....
It's outcome orientated thinking, and very short sighted. Just because a decision doesn't work out doesn't mean that the decision was a bad one.
Not easy, I've done it. But both those two looked out in real time. Ump probably played safe but in doing so saved aussie 2 reviews.
he’s right too, umpires have to be certain the batter is out so pre DRS is x was easier for them to say not out, and easier for the batter to hide the bat and not actually play a shot at the ball
