To be fair to Stokes, I think despite the criticism he took after the first test for gambling with the early declaration, waiting as long as he did might have been to get Bairstow back in the groove. Sacrificing the team's immediate requirements to bring him back into the fold after the hammer he's taken could pay off in the next game, or the end of this (if that happens!!).
I just hope Anderson gets a few wickets soon as it’s likely to be his last game at Old Trafford and it’d be game over for England. Come on England
This ump's consistently made England use reviews to get decisions. Couple of LBWs aussie 1st innings looked out in real time.
More play than expected but only one wicket. Hopefully we get at least a couple of hours tomorrow but forecast is as bad if not worse.
I don't think it's enough. If we can get to the new ball tomorrow then there's a chance but we needed a couple more down in this sort of timescale. They're on to make us bat again now. I think he should have held Wood back this morning for 8 or 10 overs. If Broad and co couldn't creat chances then Wood comes in and unsettles set batsmen. The pitch is just so dead though. There's something in it for the spinners but Moeen bowls so many pies. I think Ahmed would be much more challenging to bat against on this pitch. Fingers crossed that tomorrow's forecast improves as we can still easily take this if the weather gives us time.
That’s true but they’d played continuously for well over a normal two hour session, and it started to piss down as soon as they walked off anyway. Made little difference.
True but if you had been sat in the bar all day ,to watch em go off for 20 minute break knowing the rain was on its way was a poor decision to the paying public.
We needed at least 2 wickets today, probably 3. I think a draw is pretty inevitable now sadly. It will rob us of a great 5th test.
The schedulers gift Australia the urn. Why they have "any" test matches in the rainiest part of Britain is beyond me.
Well that won't be a problem for the future, the whole North is no longer worthy of staging an ashes test!
It's actually dry here at the moment. I'm off to the ground if its still dry in an hour to try and pick up a ticket
