I think there are a couple of ignorant posters on here commenting on Trott's battle with depression. I have battled with it for two years now (stress related through problems at work and extended family issues) and I am only just coming to terms with it. I wish Trott all the best in his recovery and hope to see him make a complete comeback.

Some disgraceful comments in this thread. Mental health issues are an illness, not a choice.

It's down to basic education and emotional intelligence wellsie. Sadly, a lot of people have little of either.

Such a shame that there is still a stigma around mental illness in the 21st century. Words like 'coward' are the complete opposite of what Jonathan Trott is.

I merely suggested he could be walking from the tour for cricketing reasons, he wasn't stressed when he was hitting runs for fun was he? But then again suggestions against the grain on this board are not allowed.

Anyone trivialising Jonathan Trotts illness really should have a lot more empathy, Depression and Stress Related Illnesses are no respecter of money, sporting ability and status.

I would highly recommend anyone that brushes this off as "not fancying it" would do well to read Marcus Trescothick's book "Coming back to me".
It's a fantastic insight into the stress and pressure that some individuals feel living away from their family, moving from hotel room to hotel room and it's more than just homesickness.
It's very difficult reading for anyone that's ever suffered with any element of depressions (as both me and my girlfriend have at various times on the past) as I can identify with large parts of the book.

There needs to be a lot more understanding about mental illnesses, however a lot of people still just brush it off as there is often no outwardly visible signs. It takes a lot more to openly confront the problem than just stick your head in the sand and believe that everything will be rosy and fine.

Good on Trotty for leaving the tour and seeking specialist help
