Foakes did play a braindead shot to get out last night, but I don't think he's a natural t20 player anyway. I think Bairstow can reset to test level. It just seems to take him a while after ODI series, which is a worry. But yes, I think its time to get rid of Stokes and Buttler now. It must be a very very long time since we only had one player averaging over 40. Maybe the dreadful John Crawley years.
I've noticed when the bowling attack is keeping it tight with Woakes and Broad bowling dot balls creating pressure. Root brings Stokes into the attack and we start going at 5 an over.
Makes me laugh... the clamour to get rid of players and replace them with players already tried who proved inferior! Stoneman, vince, im surprised no ones mentioned balance. The problem lies with that T20 you went to see last night, no ones bothered anymore growing up..... block it all day and play county cricket for 10 pence or have a whack and play T20 all over the world for millions! Cricket, and cricketers need to work out what is important, unfortunately for lovers of test cricket we have been trying to win the 50 over World Cup for the past 4 years. And don’t even get me started on the hundred!!
Well yes, but then they'd get criticised for playing too aggressively. I though Australia bowled really well yesterday, especially Hazlewood whose line was immaculate. Roy's shot was a bit loose for an opening batsman but it's to be expected when you pick him to open, Buttler's was a bit half hearted, Stokes' was a really poor shot but the rest of them were got out I'd say. Sometimes you've just got to accept that their bowling is better than your batting and will knock you over, it's not necessarily batting mistakes.
The Hales experiment hasn't worked. Need to consider someone like Dom Sibley to open with Burns. Buttler isn't the right middle order option in test cricket. Surprised Sam Northeast has never been given an opportunity.
I didn't think Roy was playing any sort of shot. No foot movement and a tickled edge. It was hardly a loose shot. More a nothing push.
Who was the lad who got sent home for punching James Anderson. He had balls he should be given another opportunity?
Because they aren’t test batsmen with the ability to survive, they’ve either been coached to hit their way out of it, or they can’t think for themselves. But yes, you’d think someone somewhere might have suggested trying to defend straight deliveries that are wide and high is a bit stupid
Never really got a chance because of that incident. Was getting rave reviews at county level as a top order batsman.
During the roses T20 match at Old Trafford that was rained off Atherton was saying exactly the same, now Vaughan is sticking his two penneth in. Whose coaching these players? If I was an England player and Atherton, Vaughan, Gower and Botham and co were all saying. If it's outside off stick leave it or put it away. I'd take stock.
Stoneman at least got his head down and battled. Roy hasn't got the technique for test match cricket. It was desperation that won him a place.
Bairstow's hiding - he's not irreplaceable as a wicket keeper, and if he's so good at batting why's he at 7? Seems to me he can fail at 7 and so what? But if he does get runs he simply runs out of people to bat with. He should bat at 4 or 5 or be dropped.
You don't need to tell me his stats. Those figures don't illustrate how long he occupied the crease for, particularly on the 2017/18 tour of Australia.
Why wouldn’t I illustrate his stats? I get an openers job is to occupy the crease something which our current lot are incapable of but if you are telling me you be happy with an England opener getting 27 in half a day you are very easily pleased. And we won’t be winning many matches.
My point was that he would be more difficult to get out. You don't need to tell me his stats because I already knew them.
