They aren’t. You most certainly can play in overcast conditions especially at Headingley, don’t look at the pitch look at the clouds. Everyone knows that at Headingley
Can't believe this where is the glorious sunshine and 23 degrees I saw forcast last night? Been on and off more times than a tarts knickers.
Didn't someone quote WG Grace on here the other day? When you win the toss - bat. If you are in doubt, think about it, then bat. If you have very big doubts, consult a colleague then bat.
Agreed too many easy balls. The first 15 overs were excellent but they haven’t backed it up, Australia well ahead of the game right now
Warner did really well to be honest. A lesson not to follow the ball even though you're being beaten every ball. I don't know whats wrong with Woakes, if he's not fit, he shouldn't be playing. But if he is fit, you've got to give him the ball when it swings most or you're not going to get the best from him.
To be fair, it's swinging round corners. It's not Roots fault that Woakes and Stokes have been poor in the last hour. Fielding first was absolutely the right decision taking into account the conditions and the weather forecast over the weekend. The aim would have been to bowl the Australians out today, and then bat in the sun over the next two days. Obviously the weather has scuppered that, and if we don't have them 5 or 6 down overnight then we'll struggle. On a side note, you have to stick with Roy at the top of the order. He'll be dynamite during our winter tours when there is nothing in it for the seamers.
Pardon? I realise that was maybe an attempt at humour but all it’s left me doing is questioning if you actually know anything about cricket.
I said bat you didn't. I said you can't play cricket in bad light and rain you disagreed. I said Joe Root bottled it you said it was an over reaction. I say you talk out of your arse.
I think Toot was half seduced by the conditions and half worried our fragile batting line up would fail in them. Unless we knock a couple over quick Australia could bat us out of the game.
You said bat, the England captain chose not to You said they can’t play in rain. They didn’t. You didn’t say they can’t play in bad light. They did, and then didn’t How root didn’t bottle it. You over reacted. You say what you like, with every further post it confirms my earlier post.
Could easily knock another 4 over if they stay on, labuschange has looked largely untroubled however so may need to chip away at the other end
Agree. Think if the convicts finish 1st innings on 300+ its game over. Need to take as many wickets as possible today before the weather is due to turn
