HUGE HUGE loss to the club if he goes.................BUT

.......if we can get a fair price for him then its acceptable.......i.e. not like the farce that surrounded all of the other recent transfers such as Shackell, Hammill, Howard, McIndoe

    AND

......we have a manager right now that will bring players in that will replace him.........so things are not as bad as one would think

    Re: Yeah, you're right, he's ****

The manager has identified that Jacob's best position is in the hole behind the centre forward. Playing in this position allows him the space to play his game without worrying as much about defensive responsibilities. Even so, he is repeatedly asked to take one for the team by playing in a position that he is far less effective in ( in the centre of a midfield four, or even out on one of the wings). Because the supporters have seen him be effective in his favourite position, he attracts criticism when he is less effective when played out of position, but is this his fault or is it the manager's fault. The criticism of Perkins, when he was played out of position was far less vitriolic as I recall.

Having said that, a premiership club will expect him to be able to play centre midfield, a job that he is obvoiusly not ready for at that level. This is why I do not think that he will go in January. It would be best for both Butterfield and BFC if he stayed.

    yes for about 5 million.
    Both Bradford born lads too.
Saw Fabian at about 17/18 playing for reserves and he didn't have anything that jacob doesn't. Its just that Leeds fans are more encouraging when they see younger players that have spent time in their academy that let leeds play him even though he would make the odd mistake. Barnsley fans see it as some sort of excuse to have ago at them even more than than another player.

Also Fabian got to showcase is ability on the first team stage even at league 1 level.

If Buttercup goes I think it will be a retrograde step, he makes a lot of what we do happen. But i think he wont go unless hill thinks its right for it to happen, and if he does he will already have made plans. In hill I trust.

If he goes, I can't blame the lad at all. The number around me on his back at West Ham was ridiculous.

Imagine being in his shoes. He's been called up into an international squad. He's scoring goals, he's creating chances and he gets grief regardless from his own fans. Why not be at a premiership club, with more experience and more talent around him and earning more than we could afford to pay him?

Every player in the championship has shortfalls

The majority of players in the Premiership have them. The very few players without short comings play for Man Utd, Chelsea, Man City, Barcelona and Real Madrid. And even those players have poor games.

What I don't understand is why the best prospect we've had in a generation is continually picked over for any tiny flaw. Anything that isn't perfect about his game is criticised on here at the drop of a hat. All our players make mistakes, every one of them in every game, yet it just seems Butterfield is singled out time and again.

I can't understand why anyone would want to criticise any of our players at the moment. They're as hard a working bunch of players as we've ever had. Maybe not the best players we've ever had, but good, honest professionals to a man. But why people want to pick on the youngest, most gifted member of the group just baffles me.

    It's bizarre.

Why can't we ever get promising players to sign new contracts?

Zaha at Palace, who has Premier League clubs lining up to offer £5m for him, has just signed a new 5 year deal.
They have invested in his development & he has repaid that by signing on the dotted line.
Why do young players we develop always walk out for about 36 pence?
Is it because we are not particularly fashionable - or are we simply terrible at convincing the extremely occasional talent we produce that the best thing for them is to stay with us until they are really ready to move on?

    I blame Jay.
His hair scares our young prospects away.

Perhaps Crystal Palace et al have a slightly more pro-active, professional and commercial approach to their off-field management and activities ?

    just guessing

    Maybe?

We are a small family club.
We only spend what we have got, unless Paddy puts his hands in his pockets.
We try to live within our means.
    We are thrifty.

Translation - we're a bit tin-pot & anyone can take the **** out of us if they want.

    I still blame Jay though.

    Re: Maybe?

When John Williams was ousted from Blackburn - had I been owner at BFC I'd have gone and put him in charge at Oakwell.

I'm quite sure he wouldn't allow us to have our pants pulled down and be butt ****** over players contracts etc. If indeed that is what has happened/does happen at Oakwell. Just guessing.

But we don't own the club.

Paddy does ... and as far as I'm concerned he's a legend.

However - if it were my club / money / legacy ... I would maybe try to do things a little differently.

For starters - every barmaid would be wearing transparent clothing.
I'd pay the players in toast.
I'd knock down the West Stand & build a massive water slide.

    I know my stuff.

    Yes I would.

I would bury him under the pitch.
    It's a cheap version of under-soil heating.
I'd let him have a tube so he can breath & eat.

I might accidentally **** down the tube.

By "accidentally" I obviously mean "on purpose".
    And by "****" I obviously mean "****".
