Re: Yes I would. I dont know why we think £2 million is a lot for him. Premier league clubs can afford to gamble on young talent and thats what they do, look at the 2 Kyles Spurs bought from the Blunts for however much they paid, what was it around £7 million? Then there is Jordan Slew played 10 times over 2 years for Sheff Utd and went to Blackburn for £1 million!!! - an obvious gamble but its worth the risk to them - whats a million quid if the lad doesnt work out - peanuts to them and if the lad does work out, the amount of money thats splashing around in the premier league they will sell him on for a profit to another team. IMO Butterfield is much less of a gamble, according to Soccerbase he has played nearly 60 times for us, has been a regular all this season, is captain of a Championship club and been called up to the U21 squad, so is obvioulsly rated by people with much more football knowledge than us - much less of a risk.....so £2 million? compared to what other teams are selling their 'Rising stars' for - £2 million at least please.
Re: Every player in the championship has shortfalls cheap as chips not near enough 2 million! if that's the case we should have add ons ,so many games played additional payment of another 2.5 million. cost of running a football club in the championship ....a lot more than most people think ask Don Rowing!
Got to agree Mr Jay......cos its Barnsley we cant wait for him to put his coat on... .........its sad that fans think in this way Like you said if he was at another Championship team (especially the Blunts) he would be valued in 5, 10 or even more millions Cos he is at Barnsley we ask for only 2 million. But in saying that it is an improvement to what has happened recently with Shackell, Hammill, Howard and McIndoe where we have actually given these players away for nowt.
Re: Yes I would. Its for exactly these reasons that I also believe he's worth in excess of 2m, but the reality is that every Prem club knows that Don is a numpty, scarily incompetent and fathoms out of his depth, and they also know that 500k is all that'll be needed to have him thanking them for their business. Buffoon.
When Butterfield goes... ...as I'm sure he will as soon as he can, simply for the money i.e. in January, does anybody think RNL would be able to play a similar role in the team?
Re: Yes I would. Interesting you should use Jordan slew as an example. I rate him as highly as any youngster at barnsley. He has played ten times a lot as sub and got himself three goals. Not bad going for someone who is eighteen nineteen tops. I have had the misfortune of seeing quite a few blunts youth and reserve games and he has always stood out head and shoulders above the rest. He was that highly rated they thought of him as a future England player. They turned down a "substantial offer" for him from fulham early in the summer and as I understand it only ended up at Blackburn as the pound sign flashed before his eyes. .and is now a little home sick and low on confidence no where near the first team. If he was still at the lane he would have played a lot more proper football. A more logical example would be Johnjo shelvey who plays in a similar role to butterfield was on a decent contract at charlton. Liverpool got him for £1.7million..
Re: When Butterfield goes... I think Gai Assulin until the the end of the season on loan will be the replacement, with RNL as a backup who will get game time here or there. January is the month of panic buying where clubs pay over the odds to make sure they get who they want. Can't see our Keeth doing that. I can only see loan signings until the summer.
Re: When Butterfield goes... As I keep saying, it will probably be undisclosed, so guess all you like. I love how we start dumbing down his ability the nearer it gets to January. Best player at the club? No, not IMO. Most talented in the first team? Yes, by a mile. Will we miss him? Who knows, but Id rather we didnt have to find out. I still believe Reuben will eclipse him by the time he's 21 and getting grief for not defending...
Butterfield is a 'good' player but he isnt an outstanding one. In my opinion he has improved his technique and stamina in the last 12-18 months but is still short of a) Pace and b) Sharpness of thought. He might get a bit quicker mentally but he will be exposed for pace in the Premier League and, again in my opinion, will end up 'doing a Hamill' where some fans bemoan the supposed fact that they have lost a superstar but end up realising that he is not as good as the hype makes out. I think Hill is being quite clever in talking Butterfield up, knows he has some ability, knows he will get some money and therefore has steeled himself for a sale. If so, then he will already have some ideas to strengthen the squad on Butterfield's departure and will be preparing for the longer term. If we get the £2 mill for him that some people on here are talking about then I'm happy with that, BFC will be happy with that, Hill will be happy with that and Butterfield will be happy with that. The guy is not bigger than the club and Hill will see us move forward.....
£2 million for a 21 year old captain of a Championship club in this day and age doesn't seem like a lot of money to me. I'd be a bit disappointed if we can't get more for him. His price tag shouldn't just reflect how good he is now, but also his potential. Unless we can get a sale on clause then I wouldn't be too happy with only £2 million.
I expect his price tag to reflect the fact he has 6 months left on his contract and the tribunal system has a history of screwing over the selling club. I'd be stunned if we get anywhere near £2million for him
It will probably be reported as undisclosed but thought to be in the region of £500.000 with add ons, I'm only going on our past record like,
