Flat rent? They are put out to tender and they pay a fixed price for the season. If they are lucky and the team does well and attendances rise they will make some money but next years tender will be higher. Many years ago my old mum run the bars for the club, then they were put to outside firms and she run the bars for them for many years, during that time my sister and me looked to take it on and mum approached John Steel on the qt, she had dealt with him for years, and he basically said tell your family to forget it because the amount we charge will make it very difficult to make money and I wouldn't want your family to lose money. The majority of clubs outsource their bars, its a win win situation, guaranteed income from day one, no staff to pay, stock to buy etc. all the risk is on them and like I said earlier if the club has a good season then the following years tender price will increase.
It was meant tongue in cheek. In a "knowing Barnsley" way. Thanks for the info though, good to know the situation. So you think the club are better off financially this way?
With the state of our finances at the moment I would say they are better off, they get money up front for no lay out, just a point, when I said about it been put out to tender in the first place, that was in the mid 1980's and to my knowledge it's been that way since, so it's nothing new.
10,531 including 210 from Watford Despite the price, there will be no substantial increase in attendance.
