BFC did not charge you for your rail ticket. Ale and food (unless you bought it in the ground). I wish people would stop adding on sundries because it makes out as though BFC are ripping you off left right and centre. Most people include costs which don't need to be met just to justify a moan at the club
If you can't afford it fair enough. If you can't afford 28 quid a match I would have thought even 20 quid a match would be expensive aswell. The club have priced tickets at 28 quid for a reason I would have thought, I doubt it's some random price plucked out of thin air. If the club could charge 15 quid a match im sure they would. Although some people probably think the don has conjured up some sinister plan to dupe the supporters of Barnsley out of there money. If you can't afford it, you can't afford it. The club aren't being unreasonable, when compared to other club in the division.
This discussion about pricing and the club setting high prices keeps cropping up. The POTD fans think it is too high. The club say they can't afford to drop prices. I would like to ask the club what they would do if we sold 15000 season tickets in the summer? I am sure they would be chuffed with that. But that would mean 15000 people all paying £15 in the ground every game. So my point is what would they do? And why don't they price it nearer to that scenario that could feasibly happen. Hope that makes sense.
i just moan at the £28/£18 entrance fee, any other expense is something that's guaranteed to be enjoyed. Football to me is a day out, not just to turn up and go home, but the club could justify lowering ticket prices if they could optimize the hospitality of the joe bloggs who attends
It's a day out, people need to pay to get to Oakwell. Nobody was blaming BFC for rising petrol/train prices.
Rotherham have an exceptionally high number of bandwagon jumpers at the moment.. So I don't think thats a good comparison. Anyone who knows the history of the 2 clubs, particularly since the late 70s knows that Barnsley have always been better supported. Don't get me wrong I wish the Millers all the best with everything they've been through. However, the bandwagon jumpers will fall back off in big groups, when the newness wears off and if they aren't successful this season.
Genuine question here.. so what you're saying is that unless the club reduced prices even further - to a point that they couldn't sustain themselves even at the current level - then you couldn't afford to attend? I'm not sure what the club can do about that. BFC are not responsible for the state of the local or national economy. The fact is that most of the other clubs in the Championship have more people in their catchment area, therefore, BFC are always going to have lower attendances than their peers. Yes or No?
Your choice mate, and I understand your sentiments, but to refuse to suppport the club at the start of a new season because of last season is poor form from you in my opinion. At least give it a few games to make your mind up?
No... We have fans out there for beter attendences a la prem season or chealski coming in our fa cup run. They are there just dort realise what leauge were in and how lucky we are.
So people can't afford to pay £28 on the gate, they can't afford to pay for a season ticket in one lump sum, and they can't afford to spread the payment??? So effectively they just can't afford to go. Not the club's fault then.
got to aggree with mike here,at least get to the games,,and to be honest you've missed 2 good home games, nowt like the sh ite we were served up after xmas,,and thats with only a squad of about 12 fit players to choose from..things can only get better, get yoursens to the games.
Do people blame Blah Bar for the cost of a taxi in to town on a Saturday night when they moan at the cost of a pint in there/
Agreed, but both examples were extremes. We keep hearing how difficult it is for people in Barnsley at the moment, which I know it is, but what can the club do about the state of the economy? As I've stated elsewhere, I think £28 is on the high side, but would a £6 saving every 2 weeks or so, really be the difference between going to Oakwell or missing a payment on a gas bill?
It's not so much a matter of the £6 saving but the fact that £28 just sounds too much. It might as well call it £30. I know it sounds silly but humans are weird like that. I was toying with the idea of not getting a ST in the summer, seriously considering it, not stopping supporting BFC just I thought I would plan to go to a fair few games still, but my choice of games. But the thing that made me buy the ST was that I honestly couldn't see myself paying £28 for a ticket, just too much. £22 is a totally different ball park, in that case you can call it £20 (psychologically you have saved a tenner). Weird but that is how it is. BFC have priced it too high IMO.
i only just get by now, so yes, i've got to pick my games, i know several others in the same boat, its a very expensive luxury now. you think i like telling my youngest we can't go after the last year or so of hardly missing a game? its all he talks about! similar catchment area? would you class blackpool? £25/£24, members £20/£19 burnley? similar system to us last season, but still a £ or 2 cheaper peterboro, too complicated but non higher than £25 but can be a max of £20 in 1 stand thats just picking 3 random teams, but i'd bet if you pay on the day to all 23 games at £644, ours would be pretty high up the list over the whole season even if you bought online at £25+ booking fee and come on, £18 for a school kid??? this carries on and it'll end up like the scottish leagues attendances!
That is the one thing they need to change immediately, it's ridiculous. They are effectively expecting a parent to pay £46 (for them and 1 kid) to attend because in a lot of cases if the adult can't afford the kids ticket (or they have under 5's) it probably means that nobody attends. Kids (u16) should be a lot cheaper.
But, the one thing I will say is.... Other clubs are getting double/treble the crowds and are charging the same price if not more, Leeds 36 quid, Brighton 34 quid. Some of you people are embarrassing our club, if you are a Barnsley 'fan' then you need to get down to the ground and support us. If I can drive from Hull for every game and pay for a pass then surly more locals can. The pass is great value and I really think a lot more people can afford 300 quid for a full season...not everyone, some people might actually be proper skint. I earn an average wage so I'm sure plenty of Barnsley folk can afford a pass.
personally i find that offensive! i usually work 6 days a week to make sure I've a couple of quid in my pocket, everything going up means something has to give, not the clubs fault i know, but like them i have to cut my cloth accordingly, sorry, if that's embarrassing, but i have to pick games i fancy, that's the way it is for me now and quite a few more.
You seemed to miss out the bit were I put 'not everyone, some people might actually be proper skint' But like I say, other clubs are getting double/treble what we get and charge the same/more. We really aren't supporting our team, before long we will be back in league 1 and getting 6000 or less.
