I'm sure catchment area's might play a big part in this too mate. I envy those who live within walking distance of Oakwell, but a lot of the locals have a very negative outlook on the club.
That’s the point I made about investment into the club. Why should PC or anybody else put their money in when our own fans don't. I know there are fans who genuinely can't afford to go and will go when they can afford it but there are fans who moan and whinge about the club and don't even go and invest in trying to make things better.
It might not be the clubs fault, but ultimately it is the clubs problem. We are in a big recession, everything is going up - including the essentials like food and heating - except for wages, and people have less free cash. Fewer people can afford to go to a game. Unless things changes radically, next season we will sell even less season tickets and POTD will also drop. Personally, I would love to go to the occasional game, but on the rare day I *could* go (family commitments) it would be a real struggle to justify paying that amount out for 90 minutes of entertainment when all of us could do something together.
The people of Barnsley need to decide if they want a football club or not. Clubs like Middlesbrough where people don’t have much money still turn out, Hull and so on. And look at the prices they charge. The club did offer a finance deal. Which was by the way a cracking offer at interest free. 50 a month or something like that. At the end of the day people who want to go will go. Those who don’t will make excuses and blame the prices. Just a shame the people who will rather make excuses will be the first to complain if they don’t get a ticket for a cup game against whomever when we sell out.
On the back of successive relegation scraps and a 'prove the bookies wrong' marketing policy. Who's going to subscribe up front to that ? Other than the core support ? The club quite simply has to formulate a match day pricing policy that encourages people to come and see how we're progressing without clearing out the family budget. BFC need to realise that they are competing against other options for people's money - the number of people who make paying for football a priority is diminishing - that doesn't make them a lesser supporter - it means they are skint. The attitude that people 'know where the club is' will kill the club. Times have changed.
We’ve tried with ticket offers. Like two for £30, and get in for £15 etc now and again but it makes no impression on the attendance. People can get into Oakwell for £25 which for a Championship club is a good price and maybe the cheapest in the league, anything less and where charging what league 2 clubs do. So people don’t come because where struggling, so what some say is they will come one where mid table in league 2?
Knee jerk one-offs aren't the answer. A flat £25, £15 (eg) for concessions with a discount if you buy in advance - something long term. Scrap the bloody silly membership nonsense. Make the club accessible without having to sign up. Get the message out there on a medium other than Facebook as well.
I could have afforded a ST in the summer. But I'd be unable to get to nearly half the games due to other commitments. My life has changed in the last 12 months. New relationship, moved away, made redundant, new employment etc etc and so on. So I'm attending where possible. And it'll cost me a lot more than usual. I'm not moaning about that, and it's not the clubs fault that my circumstances have changed. But I don't like the attitude of some, who seem to assume that because THEY manage to attend every home game, that we all can. I was a ST holder from 1994 to 2012, and a regular before that with r old boy, since 1988. But never did I preach to those who couldn't attend, for whatever genuine reason. Those who can attend, can afford it, but choose not to - different story, and I'd shoot them all. If I had a gun. Which I don't. And if I was a maniac. Which I'm not. Honest. I'm not.
You clearly read my post, but didn't clearly understand it. Nowhere did I blame the club, or moan at them, for my rail fare, or ale/food consumption. I did though, call the £28 entry fee obscene. Which it is, unless you're well off. Which I'm not.
Where, did I blame the club??? Jesus wept. Are my keys not working or summat? I merely stated that for SOME people, there are things in life more important than football, and that SOME can't afford it. Simple as that. I was defending my fellow supporters, who can't manage to attend every home game like the perfect ******* supporter. My only moan at the club was about the entry fee, which in my mind is obscene.
if i could be arsed, i'd go through the division, but i'd guess we're in the top half of the most expensive POTD at £28. which considering we are one of the most unglamorous teams still doesn't tally up. I'll be there v's blackpool, dare say i'd go if it was £28 because it appeals to me, where as ipswich and peterboro next up doesn't, not at £56 anyway
I did understand it. So now you have no issues with additional expenditure, its clear that its the entrance fee. This is where I wanted you to go. So on this basis, what would you consider reasonable, and then we can start from there
I personally think that in recent times far too much emphasis was placed on going the Season Ticket route. The Season Tickets are tremendous value. But paying on the gate for many people is not. I would like to see the club look at making one section of the stadium available at a much reduced cost. Then going a step further, if we were able to turn the lower West Stand back to standing room only I am convinced that the attendances would improve massively. And the atmosphere would improve too. Particularly if it was the section nearest to the North stand.
we've always needed to do summet about tickets. crowds seem to be gettin lower and lower, even though for some reason each season, away followings by each individual club gets higher.
My only issue with additional expenditure, is justifying it to r lass, and my wallet. Reasonable, IMO, would be a flat rate of £22. But if you bought the tickets at least 24 hours before kick off, they'd cost £20. Kids would be a tenner in, no matter what. And by kids, I mean 11 to 16 year olds. The little uns (under 11's) would be free in with an adult. Ponty made a good point yesterday, where he suggested that folk see £28, and think £30. It's just human nature.
The support from the Midlands clubs has dropped alarmingly. I'd say away support is declining throughout the leagues.
Redinburgh could be onto summat here,,why not make the entire lower west stand £15 and say £20 quid for a family,as it is now its empty so surely it could be a starting point for a pricing experiment...
