Sorted thi phone out yet mate. Numbers and [emoji i6] written all over the show. Unless it's mine lol.
Yeah. Joking aside. Ponte gets a lot of stick called a "flapping track" however it has more notable races than a lot of other courses. Yes Redcar has the two year old trophy and Zetland Gold Cup. That's all it has though. Windsor has 1 group race. Beverley has one group race and one listed plus the bullet. Thirsk has the Hunt Cup and Ripon the Great St Wilfred. Pontefract has four listed races and a few class 2 Handicaps. The facilities are improving year on year too Glass pots in members and quite cheap too. Only a matter of time before Saturday racing and a listed race upgrading to a group race.
Norman Gundill has done brilliant things for Ponte. The testament to that is the number of Newmarket trainers who are happy to run good horses there. Including quite a few who go on to greater things, as we noted above.
Cheers mate. Really proud of my local racecourse and glad you mentioned Norman Gundill he's a lovely man.
I love hearing his previews on Racing TV. His passion for the course is very evident. He has retired from practising law now and concentrates wholly on the racing. A very good man. I've had many a thin day at Ponte, SD. But I've also had the odd shining moment, king of which was when I picked out a Mark Tompklns runner who one firm were out of line on at 33/1. The nag won cosily, carrying my twenty notes. I treated Lady Kaht to a Babycham that night!
