Anyone else a bit cheesed off with the lack of travel options for Monday. Yet again the club decided very early to limit the number of official coaches (was told they were full on Thursday night with only five filled - similiar story with the four that went to Walsall). Now I hear that the train is not an option because the last one home is 10.20. Going to have to go in the car now which I didn't want to have to do. Parking and traffic jam hell awaits!
at one time they'ed keep putting on buses due to demand even putting on a minibus if they could only half fill a coach, when did it change.
Im guessing... ...as each coach needs 2 stewards they are a bit light in that department these days. Otherwise surely they would make money out of putting as many on as possible. Not to mention easing the traffic chaos.
Go through Cawthorne, New Mill, Honley way if you're driving. Bit longer but easy. Park for free near Uni and 10 mins walk. Flockton will be hellish.
Where would you recommend then for parking I'm going straight from work in Halifax, won't have any colours just my work clothes so fairly inconspicuous.
Any of the on street car parking is free at that time after 6, so anywhere around bottom end of town centre / Lord Street (avoid Crescent pub). Find the Kirkgate entrance to town centre and you should find a spot, easy 10 mins walk to away end and easy to get out afterwards. You'll miss all the Wakefield Road palava as well. I came back to Hudders last night in 30 mins from tarn using same route. Alternatively, park in Chapel Hill area, 5 mins walk further away, but Rat & Ratchet still doing good real ale - and it's the start of your route home if going via Cawthorne method.
RE: Where would you recommend then for parking My boy does his swimming training in the leisure centre under the Panasoic Stand at 4:30 on Mondays. A bit early for kick-off time but it guarantees a parking spot right next to the Ropewalk!!(raiseaglass)
Depends where you're coming from(!) But (with maps as well!!!) <img src = "http://www.multimap.com/map/gif.cgi?&client=print&file=b6X1659Y1666S5W600H500.gif&units=<=&cookie=2006050773411800738"> You can't really miss it from the Ring Road (Southgate/Queensgate) once you get to the town centre. Sainsbury's is on the RHS of the roundabout as you look at the map above. Loads of the streets shown have parking bays on them which according to Border Terrier aren't regulated after 6pm. Can't offer better advice than just aim for the town centre, south side, get parked up, then walk! Ground is off A62, and accessed via St Andrews Rd. or from Southgate (see map below). Avood A62 area itself like the proverbial plague imho. Chances of parking in that general area slim in the extreme, unless arriving VERY early. <img src = "http://www.multimap.com/map/gif.cgi?&client=print&file=b6X1660Y1668S10W600H500.gif&units=<=&cookie=2006050773411800738">
RE: Depends where you're coming from(!) But (with maps as well!!!) Cheers for that - I'll be coming in on Bradford Road from Halifax.....I know my way from there to that roundabout with Sainsbury's so should be ok. How far from the Uni area to walk to the railway station - and The Head of Steam? Probably best bet for where to meet La Dent......unless Rat and Ratchet is close by
RE: Depends where you're coming from(!) But (with maps as well!!!) Not far, about a 5-10 minute walk...</p> Go onto Queen Street and continue onto Cross Church Street, turn left onto Westgate and then you'll see the railway station once ya on Railway street</p>
RE: Depends where you're coming from(!) But (with maps as well!!!) That's great Vim, many thanks. Will be coming from Tarn on A629 so pretty straightforward.
Just a thought, Eaststander, You will be driving past The Slubbers Arms, where Spartacus said he would be. Not a bad place to drop the motor off in my opinion, if approaching the town from the north side (ought to be good street parking prospects in streets behind pub). <img src = "http://mc.multimap.com/amtc/mi39/2/2095/1806.gif?client=yell25000&v=2"> It's where Halifax Old Road & Willow Lane meet Bradford Road, on the RHS as you are approaching the Town Centre. Easy and popular 10 min walk to ground from there. Not particularly handy to get to on foot from the train station, mind, if meeting anyone arriving on public transport. Would only be about 10 - 15 mins on foot, mind.
RE: Depends where you're coming from(!) But (with maps as well!!!) Is it possible to get to the ground from Kilmer Bank? (no street on map)
It is on map! Behind stadium parallel to St Andrews. Don't know whether it is possible mind, might need abseiling gear for all I know, sorry.
