We've started playing a semi-version of anti- football ourselves recently, without any encouragement from Cardiff.
Only a matter of time before we'd drop points against a **** team and super Val would come under scrutiny. It's par for the course. Now isn't the time for knee jerk reactions. Likewise I don't think his opinion was total *****.
Cardiff do hoof ball better than us because they have the players to play that way ,we need to vary our play more although on our pitch at the minute it’s not easy playing the ball to feet.
First goal wasn’t a corner but we should have defended it . That’s not cheating . Second goal of theirs wasn’t cheating we had chance to defend it . Same could be said for our goals on their behalf they didn’t defend them well enough . Some of the decisions by the ref were baffling we all know that but yet we still put our hands on their shoulders or gave the ref chance to make a decision. It’s not just Cardiff , a few teams have done that to us over last two seasons . I don’t want us to cheat just wise up a little bit .
Fair dos. But play the same team 4 times in 10 days & see what happens. Especially, this time of year & behind closed doors pitches everyone is playing on. The same ‘experts’ will then turn on the manager for not resting & rotating. We talk about matches we would have lost last season & are thankful we’re not at the predicted rock bottom position. Val knows less about my job, than I know about his. But am happy to let him get on with it. He’s been doing ok..
Not too many complaints after the Norwich win or when we've won other games, maybe we just need to accept that it's a work in progress and that Big Val's doing brilliant if we consider the bigger picture. There's always going to be room for improvement, that's just life of being a Barnsley fan.
Not really tbh . I’m not disappointed as I said with the result and deffo not league position . Mine isn’t a match by match critique on this occasion it’s a point I’m making win lose or draw. Of course I was over the moon with saturdays performance and we had would have been win lose or draw . What dissapointed me tonight was some aspects of our individual play not because we made mistakes but the same mistakes in previous similar games . If our young side make mistakes or are a bit naive it’s to be expected I’m all for that tbh as long as we learn but some aspects of our play tonight says we’re not learning . If a team lets us play we can tear them a new one but if a team lacking and trying to survive and using tricks we fall for time and time again and imo that’s not learning .
If I’ m honest, mate. I don’t have the best eyesight or attention span & often most of matches pass me by. At Oakwell or online. Maybe, that’s why I loved the great footballers who stood out & tried to appreciate the grafters who allowed them to play.? They’re all potential world beaters to me. 40 seasons in, since a boy, I still feel the same & still know nowt. But I would have definitely broke the net, with the volley that fell to Cauley, first half..
I understand what you're saying, but we probably went into tonight's game as favourites against a team that comfortably beat us 3-0 not long ago so that to me shows that we are learning and improving under Val.
I hate to go on about budget but I would imagine we are above our position in the table based on that (especially since val got the job). I understand that it’s not Brazil or Cardiff and I think we’re mostly closer to the latter but if it took the Cardiff approach to keep us in the division I would understand it. The problem is some people will be disappointed unless we win playing like Brazil. And even them presumably some would have something to complain about.
Fi, I’m still getting my head around the last 2 matches. A very good, expensive Norwich side basically played off the park, having let them have a way majority possession. Then tonight’s 50/50 slug fest with an underperforming side, on paper, better than us.? 2 very different games. but usLearning as we go.? Someone is going to get a right tonking soon, hopefully Chelsea.
On that basis yes you’re right but that’s on a results basis which is fair enough . My point is whether we W D or lost that game we lost a lot of battles individually which I’d have thought at least some of them would learn some nous which imo Woodrow is coming on but didn’t get the rub tonight with this ref .
I have my moments but I don't take myself too seriously. My Dad says I change more times than wind but I'll always have a corner if i'm needed. I just like craic. I've made some good friends on social media. They've weathered some rants, witnessed family moments and shared my anxieties. I wouldn't have it any other way. I know I'm big, round n' sometimes profound
The ref didn't help tonight, the real turning point for me was Cardiff's first goal which gave them a massive lift and changed the momentum of the game.
