We need a hybrid of the old and new.......... ..........its no good throwing the baby out with the bath water The dotted lines that show which thread is answering to whom is good. If this site is quicker thats also good. But what we need is a simple easy to use site. One that you can just throw ideas onto the message board. You can't do that on this message board because it sort of gets lost in a sea of written material. Basically we need a site that looks like the old site but with a few changes. Ease of being able to post avatars, pictures, icons and pms. I dont like how one thread on here merges into another. There needs to be a gap between each thread I also dont like the fact that someone can post and all their message appears on the main bulletin Board. I also dont like it when you click on a thread you then have to scroll up to find what they have written. I know we put on you a lot Gally. But we are very thankful for what you do here. Now go to it and show us why they pay you big dollars to perform miracles with computers
To be honest I like the new format. In fact I couldn't stand it at first but now I'm linear mode all the way. I think the biggest issue for me was that no matter what I did I couldn't log on to the new site. Eventually I reregistered. However, I wonder if this lost some of the regulars. I've not seen quite a few on here who were top people eg Burgandy Red. I also think the criticism of site admin us ridiculous. They do this for Nowt in their own time. If you think you can do better or help out then offer to.
I much prefer this version. Old version was.... Well old... Most other forums use vbulletin, if people can't get used to it, they can't venture onto other (non-footie) forums much.
Re: The Problem is "The Green Bits" Now that post DID make me chuckle! Who said there's no humour on here anymore? As for the green issue, I did think I was special at first as I appeared to be the only one, but I know I'm not the only one as we've discussed this before. Maybe the solution will be found, Stahlrost, if you try a Canadian IP address. Ha Ha.
Re: The Problem is "The Green Bits" posts turn green for me as well, obviously temperamental but works for some of us
Re: The Problem is "The Green Bits" Don't go back to the old forum - that would be a massive backward step. If traffic has died down, then it's for reasons other than that the look of the forum has changed. This one is far better, and anyone who can't be bothered to put a bit of time investment in getting used to it doesn't really have that much to offer that I'd want to read.
Re: The Problem is "The Green Bits" I don't really mind what the layout is - its a bloody internet page, it can't be that hard to use. The only issue I had with the old one was the awful and rapidly worsening speed of it. But I have no problem with the new one.
Please, god, no.. Yes, the change of format lost a few members, and has its issues. But I have personally got used to it now, and I love the way it all works. Dont get me wrong, the old board was great in everything but speed. And surely thats the main issue? The problems on ere arent that game-changing. My posts change to green. I dont know what view Im on but its basically the same look as Tykesmad. Where you click on a thread, and then scroll down thru all the posts in reply. Ok, you have to go thru ones you have read already, but its hardly time-consuming to scroll down is it? My only real issue is when on mobile view, I post my thoughts and they appear in the subject box (not on my screen btw, but to others apparently) so thats annoying. Oh, and sometimes I type my post, and when I go to submit it, it doesnt work, rendering my time pointless. That happens rarely now, maybe once a day. But I can cope with em. If you amazingly take us backwards, like from Hillcroft to Rockin (get it?), then Id probably sack it off. Which would please a few people like! ;D But no. Please Gally, stick with this and focus on making this format better. Thanx. Andy
Re: Please, god, no.. Surprised no one has mentioned the fact that with the old format it was possible to get the gist of a thread without having to dive right into it it because of the progression of the headers. Often a reply was just the header, often this was killer funny and all that was needed. In a way that made the old format much slicker, much more user-friendly and much easier to read just the content you wanted to without wading through loads of shiite. It was possible to boot up the old site and gauge it's mood very quickly, this one not so. I agree that some of the current posters are pains in the arse but that has always been the case, DB3K in his pomp (lest we forget) for one and the world biggest and breeziest cyber-bully for two are not missed, this current crop will not stand the test of time. I certainly prefer the old format but prefer the speed of this site, if the old site can be mended with the help of some cash then I'm in.
Go back to the old format please simply cannot see this platform working no matter how much tinkering. Give the old format a refresh, upgrade the server. Please.
Re: Go back to the old format please Exactly what SM said - this one ain't going to work, end of. Bring back the old one, but quicker.
Re: We need a hybrid of the old and new.......... I didnt like this site at first but once I'd played around with the settings and got it to a look and feel that I liked it grew on me. The user settings are really good so and allow you to change the site quite a lot. This site gives you all that. It is really easy to post pictures, etc and post pm's to other posters and the 'how to' guide is very informative.
Re: Go back to the old format please I frequent several other boards myself and if you look round the net the overwhelming majority use this modern style BBS. Im at a loss why folk are so indifferent about it especially the old version was crap and hard to follow on long threads and lacks all the features this has. The odd thing is you can still view this BBS in the old threaded format, albeit with a slightly different format. Maybe people on here are just too resistant to change, which is odd as many are always calling for a new manager
Re: Go back to the old format please If you look at the number of people viewing threads, there is no shortage of numbers - it's just that many seem to be unablwe to work out how to click "reply" and type in a box....and if that's not the case maybe it's nothing to do with the new style at all.
If anyone wants to netmeeting onto my machine and watch how fcking slow it is to load up in threaded format, you are welcome. Ive worked in IT for more than 15 years and can remember the BBS when it first started, when you could read the entire web in 10 minutes ffs, and can hand on heart say this is slowest and most unusable format its ever been. Change back to the old format or this site will continue to wither and die.
Re: If anyone wants to netmeeting onto my machine The only thing wrong with the old format IMO was it became so sloooooow it was taking a minute or so to load up. I have to admit I did prefer it but it isn't that important to me.
Re: If anyone wants to netmeeting onto my machine I just tried and it took no time at all *shrugs*. Towards the end of it's previous incarnation it often didnt load at all, so im not sure saying this is the slowest it has ever been really stands up. I too used this at the beginning, but there werent anywhere near the number of users then as of now.
Re: If anyone wants to netmeeting onto my machine It might be a browser compatability issue, Im on IE7 at work and no influence to change, and the initial page load and verticle scroll is painfully slow, whereas the old board was lightening. Im using the classic BBC view threaded, and at home, on either IE8 or Chrome, its still slower than before and and thats through 20GB fiber and cabled on a machine with 4GB RAM and core i5. Ive had to resort to Forum Runner, which wont accept my password so I cannot post only view. Maybe you're viewing in a different format with a different browser, but Im telling you the format is barely useable for me at the moment, hence why Im hardly on here anymore.
