Bad Day for Democracy

I think the reason behind the low percentage and high number of seats for Labour is down to tactical voting. The low turnout is probably down to long-time Tories staying at home rather than vote for the current shower of excrement. But you're right about it not really being democratic, we need electoral reform otherwise the pattern will just keep repeating itself.

Anyone not voting (given they were able to) has, in my opinion, forfeited the right to comment about anything that happens politically. Our forefathers had to sacrifice a great deal to achieve universal suffrage. Although I agree with the unfairness of FPTP, it has facilitated 14 years of corruption and incompetence for example, I’m not going to let anyone or anything undermine my delight at the events of last night

It is. It's a choice to have no say whatsoever in what ensues.
Again, it's ignorance. What solution do they think will appear by doing nothing.
Absolutely no sympathy. They have a right that people have died to protect and can't be arsed to use it.

 

Perhaps for some. Others perhaps too lazy. Who knows? I’ve voted in every election in my lifetime. I believe it’s my duty and gives me the right to comment.

 

The idea people that don't vote can't talk politics is "boIlocks". What about prisoners, unfairly convicted or totally reformed, who can't vote despite the fact they'll return to society. What about those that are under the age to vote but will live in the society that has been prescribed to them. The people vote for who they feel represents them, if they feel no one represents them then why should they vote the "next best option" just so they can be allowed to talk politics.

 

I couldn't bring myself to vote as I don't want any of them, it's a choice between a sh it sandwich and sh it and potato pie.

 

Ever thought how living under a dictatorship might feel?

 

My 18 year old granddaughter reckons most of her friends didn’t vote. Depressing thought. But I’m not letting anyone talking ‘boll@cks’ lower my mood today.

 

Pretty similar feeling to this as it doesn't matter who is in place. NHS will still struggle, I won't pay any less tax, crime won't drop, shops and businesses close, schools underfunded, police and forces under resourced, work places under staffed drug abuse and crime won't drop, no real change coming.

I have no answers and neither have any of these parties.

As always I will live in hope that things do improve.

Just looking at some of the odious tories who have lost their seats. Not necessarily cabinet members, but some of the right leaning populist hate mongers devoid of reason and integrity and who have sullied their positions of power.

Thats some list of shame... And its nowhere near exhaustive.

 

All that matters is the Tories are gone, hopefully for a very long time.
It’s as simple as this you don’t vote you can’t moan.
