I saw Burlesque at Barnsley Civic Hall ,they had just had the number one album with Burlesque Live, their debut album. They were great but unhappy because it was 1976/77,and some in the audience were spitting at them ala Punk bands. Ruined the night and they probably left not having a good impression of Barnsley people. They had a great song called bananas, " we like banannas cause they've got no bones,we like marijuana cause it gets us stoned". Bands had a lot more about them in those days, stagecraft, how to talk to the audience between songs. It's amazing how many top acts in the last 15 years, who barely talk to the audience.
I sae a band at Cudwort Village club one Monday night called ' Rock Theatre', I think. Acts did 2 sets , they had one song where the guitarist was talen round the venue on someone's shoulders playing a solo. Also they had a projector and screen, to get audience participation they would have a film of a woman stripping off. At the moment of disclosure they would stop the film,tp get some singalong or response, can't remember it's 40 years ago. As a teenage boy it seemed entertaining, for a Village club.
