“How can the Replacements be the best band of the 80s when I’ve never even heard of them?” — Jon Bon Jovi Featured in: Jon Bon Jovi Quotes They just are, Jon..
Just chatting to the Mrs about our accent, I remember as a kid using the word kite for face, like the ball as just smacked me in the kite, she hadn’t a clue what I was on about and thinks I’ve made it up, she’s from Penistone mind,
I took one in the kite from Stewart Barrowclough, when I was 12. West Stand lower. National health specs went flying, busted nose.
I took one in the kite from a kid from a tennis ball at Holgate about 40 years ago. That "kid" is now our postman and he still remembers doing it lol
Definately used kite. Think it's possibly just a Tarn thing. It's flashed up on my FB memories today when a few years back I asked my non Barnsley friends if they ever use/used the word 'fannied' ? As in such like "I fannied his eyes out" meaning I tricked him.
When I was a kid "fannying" was when you were slow at something and needed to get a move on. E.g. If you were a defender with the ball at your feet , you would be told to stop "fannying around with ball" and get rid.
Barnsley Market was on the news again on Monday, this time on the BBC. It was a segment on free fruit and veg ‘Rose vouchers’ for those on low incomes. Edit, just found the clip:
