Why was Colgan dropped though? The manager went out and bought another 'keeper - who was promptly installed straight into the team. He hardly had to wait for (or earn) his opportunity....
Bit Harsh I think i'd be a little miffed if I'd been playing well and then a new guy comes in hasn't even trained with the squad yet then gets the nod....... barsteward! Colgan has had his critics, but I think he has improved season after season. He never let us down! I think on problem in general with our squad over the past few seasons is complacency, having a small squad we lacked competition for places, however, this season we have 2men fighting for each spot!!! Devaney needed someone to him, same goes for the goal keepers its vital that we retain 2 quality experienced keepers. This was proven last season when Colgan was ban for 3games and Mannone deputized.......
Totally different for keepers Devaney etc know that they will probably be involved in some way in most games, and as such can make their way back into the side. Not so for Colgan. The best he can hope for is an injury or suspension for Muller. As a keeper still in with a chance of international appearances, you can hardly blame Colgan. He hasn't long left at this job, so he needs to be playing first team. He'd probably be 1st choice at half of the clubs in this league. I'll be sorry to see him go, & will never forget that save at Cardiff. Good luck NC.
Good luck Nick I'll never, ever forget THAT save! I liked you a lot and I am very sorry to see you go.
Thanks for everything.

RE: Bit Harsh Pardon me, did you say 'playing well'? Oh yeah, you did. Lets see: He never comes for crosses, he concedes like more goals than I don't know what and ever since he's gone we've looked as strong as we've ever looked at the back. Why would he be miffed. We've brought in a big, strong and more than capable goalkeeper who has passion in his heart and which shows in his actions. As i said, good riddance.
RE: Good riddance... Colgan DOES warm up before every home game, maybe that is why he doesn't warm muller up? So he can warm himself up instead.
It was wrong of the manager to drop him for nothing in the first place whilst paul reid who was the reason we conceded so many goals at the start of the season kept his place.

you mean since reid was dropped, foster came in and souza hit form? But of course it's simply because colgan (who didnt stand a chance with any of reids **** ups in the first match) went.
Colgan had not done anything wrong, not made any mistakes yet was dropped instantly while paul reid stood in front of him had to get suspended before being dropped.
RE: Why was Colgan dropped though? Because Muller is better than Colgan. If i was a manager and found a goalkeeper that is better than the one that were in the team, i have had no problem replacing him with the new.
RE: Why was Colgan dropped though? And I think the manager has been proved to be right. Got to pick your best 11. Anyone can see that Muller is a better keeper than Colgan. NC has been a good servant to the club, and will always get a good reception from me, but Muller is better. Bit disappointed that Nick hasn't been able to sit for long on the bench as he is a quality replacement, but good luck to him.
RE: Why was Colgan dropped though? To those who were skepitcal when we bought Muller and i said he was much better than Colgan HA HA Told you so
Doesn't answer the question Whatever Colgan did or didn't do wrong, why was it wrong to replace him with a better player?

He didn't drop him for 'nothing' He replaced him with a better player. I've nothing against Nick Colgan. He played well for us for a couple of seasons. But Muller is the better goalkeeper and any manager would be mad not to play his best players.
I noticed on Saturday during the warm ups, both keepers not working together before the game, I thought there was atmosphere there between them, possibly Colgan chucking dummy out cos he's out of the side.
I agree 100% That's the manager's job. One or two on here are having a go at Nick for "spitting out his dummy", but it seems obvious to me that the manager wanted to replace him with someone better. Even if he gets back into the team as a result of injury / illness, he will be straight back out again as soon as Muller is available. I think it will be hard for Nick to get his place back on a permanent basis. Also, SD seems to have a good record of moving players on who are no longer in his plans. In the past, we always seem to have had to "pay off" players contracts when they were surplus to requirements - but this no longer seems to be the case. Well done all around. I have no issues with Nick moving on under those circumstances. Hopefully, he can get a contract for the remainder of this season and into next. Good luck to him....
