Why would you need to alter the gradient? The pictures in the link of the OP look fine.

Good to hear different sides of the argument.

If it works without problem for 30,000 in the Borussia Dortmund stadium if implemented in England I can't see it being a problem.

Just an FYI: It's not a return to terracing.

There's a barrier on every row and seats what can still be used, making a 'crush' pretty much the same risk as all seaters.

For people that think it would be like old terracing - Hillsborough couldn't happen with this system and it's safer than standing in seated areas:

I'm not having a go at anyone, just want people to be informed before they say its unsafe and will lead to another Hillsborough.

Exactly, I see no problem with it. It would be good to have it in away ends as well. City wasn't great as there were a lot of people that wanted to stand up but also a lot that just wanted to sit down.

    My point exactly.

I want to stand to watch football, others want to sit.

I wouldn't want to be annoying someone cause I was stood up (i never would do because i'm at the back, and even if I wasnt at the back I wouldnt obstruct someones view).

I'd pay the same money to go in a safe standing area. People who wanted to stand could stand, and people who wanted to sit could sit.

    Everyones a winner.

Lets Have safe standing with the modern method of standing ,you get your own area to stand ,,rail methods make it safe so no one gets crushed.
Anyway its got to be safer than now because PEOPLE ARE ALREADY STANDING IN SEATED AREAS,and that's not safe.

    Exactly Phil.

    IMO, anyway.

Glad the club listened to the fans.

The rail system proposed by FSF is not that good, it works by having 1.8 people per seat. Why not go back to the old terrace system with more barriers
More than one system should be evaluated and considered. The cost for the rail system is about 100£ per seat to install

Best news in a long time

Standing is not and has never been a problem at Oakwell, there were over 30,000 (95% standing) against Man City and Liverpool (and 29,000 against the Wendys) in the 81/82 season with no problems whatsoever. The new safe rail seats (dual use) as used in Germany are perfectly good and would directly replace the current seating with no modifications required to the underlying structure of the stands.

First to go standing should be the Ponty.

I would gladly pay extra to fund this.

    Good.

The reason you can charge less to stand is that you can fit more people into the same area that others sat in. Even if we just reprofiled the West Stand Lower to add crush barriers it would provide the option and increase our max attendance by a couple of thousand.

But it won't happen - as Jay mentioned, it's significant cost for very little benefit from a business perspective. But it is something the clubs 'customers' want.

Before we get too carried away, the club are merely stating that they back the idea of safe standing areas in principle.

Obviously, the cost to put them in place could be a barrier, although I understand that the FSF are pushing for money to be allocated for grants to be put in place. The club have also looked at the proposed solution that the FSF are pushing and have some reservations about it, not least the cost.
