Barnsley cannot sustain a Championship football club FACT.

RE: I don't buy that at all

The fact the managers signed players who don't seem to cut it currently won't damn us to league 1 for years. The long term viability of Barnsley as a Championship club based on the funding of one man is not possible. 9,000 home fans plus a couple more thou for derbies is not imho a basis for a successful club.

We got promoted because we deserved to and survived (just). To move on, we need more than Patrick's cheque book.

It seems

the expectation is also every signing we make has to be a world beater or the manager is a ******. even more barking than harping back to ten years ago when we were a division 2 outfit and they sold warm pork pies in the West Stand.

The attendances have dropped this season. After we signed 13 new players. Thats apathy at its clearest.

The financial backing of the manager

despite the dwindling attendances and without recognition nor praise. Can you imagine how it must feel to be working your nuts off brokering deals 24/7 and dipping into your own pocket to spend your own hard earned yet again to finance further spending having already bailed out the club to the tune of countless millions to then be criticised for not spending time giving radio coverage on specific stations and for not taking out adverts in the press by folk who cant be bothered to turn up unless we play Wednesday?

Can I suggest that you put your suggestions in an email and send it to the club. try and cajole people around you that purport to being Barnsley fans into attending a few games. but dont have a go at me for pointing out the obvious. by Championship standards, we are poorly supported.

I agree that we could and should have more fans but moaning about it isn't going to do anything.

What needs to be done is the club needs to find out why people are going to games and address those issues, unless that is done then the attendance won't increase.

That's right. Marketing is about a press advert and radio coverage. And maybe if we think a little further outside the box, a line in the programme notes.

They could also write "LOOK here for season tickets" and put eye lashes on the O's so they look like eyes.

At times

I get flippant. You should try it. Seriously, unless we take out a subliminal but pervasive message on Wii Sports, I cannot see the message getting through. Football is expensive, much more than when we were last hanging about the 2nd tier 10 years ago, and I dont think the community sees it as worthwhile when compared to what the 20 quid gets you down Wellington Street on a Friday and Saturday.

Now if we passed a law that stated you cannot moan about anything to do with Barnsley FC unless you show a recent ticket stub, that would go some way to restoring my karma at least.

I moan about moaners

Despite what you may think, the club is open to any positive suggestions that people can make to entice new/old fans to games. It will make a change from letters complaining about the pies and trying it on with mis placed season tickets. And actually, we share a responsibility for trying to do our bit. Every armchair fan that knows me will vouch I give proper umbridge out to those that could but dont attend.

I reckon we should cut a deal with Simon Cowell to get all his artists to record backwards "GO TO OAKWELL" over and over again.

World beaters?

Aye, alreight.

13 players you say. And how many of those are first team regulars? 4. That's four. I don't think it's asking too much to want a better hit rate than that. You can bleat all you like about not enough folk paying through the turnstiles, but I'm a season ticket holder and can do nothing about that. My primary concern is that the money BFC does make is being wasted on ***** players both in terms of transfer fees and wages. We can survive on our attendances. We've proved that time and again throughout our history. But we'll not do so if we continue to waste money on players who are not good enough or players Davey decides to get the bairn on with.

Ritchie got the sack for saying we could not get back into the Prem without a big money backer.

Cant see what he said wrong myself.
I dont buy into this ****** about its all the fans fault. BFC are guilty of the worst publicity I have known, we need to get more fans in so what do we do, Yep you got it, we alienate the biggest radio stsation in the area. I know everything thats been said about this situ , but its got to be resolved. Not everyone has the internet and the radio coverage by Dearne FM is comical to say the least. Yes we have a Radio station in Oakwell 1575 am, that covers the home games, but to be able to hear it you need to be able to see Oakwell.
It is not the Public of Barnsley that is to blame , its down to the Club to provide a product that catches the Publics imagination.
There has been a lot written about the 14 or so signings made this season, but just how many of these have been an improvement on what we had? Taking away the loanees, we have 4 at most, that have improved the team. A couple of those were transfer targets last season ie. Foster and JCR. The rest are not good enough.
Davey has yet to find a Striker that is any better at scoring Goals in this division than the garbage we had last season in Richards and Wright and they cost us very little.
