Barnsley fan jailed

I don't believe in punishing people. I believe in rehabilitating people. I don't understand what can possibly be gained from punishing people.

I'm also aware that some people are dangerous. Those people need separating from society in what we call a prison. Not to punish them, but to protect other people. As such, they wouldn't be serving a sentence of punishment, no 'serve your time and you're out', they would remain incarcerated until experts in the field deemed that they no longer pose a risk to the public. If the risk remains then they remain separated from society.

This woman is not a danger to the public. Our resources would be far better spent giving her the opportunity to help others with any skills she may have. Nothing will be achieved by locking her up.

I get where you're coming from but then why should I not hack your bank account and steal your entire life savings? Apart from that I don't know how to of course.

I wouldn't be a danger to the public and you don't believe in punishment so with zero punishment why should I not steal everyone's money as it is high gain and absolutely zero risk for me?

 

Stealing all my money would put me in danger. I wouldn't be able to feed myself or pay my rent or bills. I could easily end up in serious trouble through missed payments. I could end up homeless. And that's just the practical side of it. The mental anguish from being a victim of crime, particularly if it's all my life savings, could be serious, leading to anxiety, depression and other mental health problems. Many victims of crime have taken their own life.

You don't have to be hitting people with an axe to be putting people in danger. Clearly, if you're taking everyone's money, then you're a menace to society and the opportunity for you to continue to do so has to be taken away from you.

And I'm not suggesting you get to keep all your ill-gotten gains or anything you've bought with them. They are taken away from you and are used to recompense the victims of crime.

You also have a debt to those people you have wronged, for that anguish you have caused. If you repented, and it was agreed that it was unlikely you were going to reoffend, I see no reason to punish you by locking you up. Nothing is achieved by doing that. But neither do you get to use the obvious skills you have to get a well paid job and live the life of Riley. You owe a lot of people. And while you can't necessarily repay those people directly, the skills you possess can help many other people. That's called community service. You'd be doing a lot of that.

Swindling Nadine Hill was jailed at Leeds Crown Court this week for the “sophisticated and planned” deception in which she not only claimed she was too ill to even stand, but told another department that she was fit to work in order to receive further benefits.

Should have known she was dodgy with a name like that. She was sentenced at the same time as Robdog Rachel Smith and Thievingtwat Clive Jones

 

Just been reading up on this & searched for her on Facebook to see if I recognised her which I don’t.

How did she expect to get away with it? There’s pictures of her out boozing & in football tops out socialising. Got to be a contender for the worlds dumbest criminal

Believe it or not, the DWP cannot use Facebook in their investigations.
A close relative, of mine, works for the Job Centre, and has actually had ‘self employed’ people sit there in work gear with paint and caulk all over their hands stating that they have no work. Then a quick Facebook nosey shows them offering their services for £150 per day cash in hand. And there is nothing they can do about it.
Worst one was so aggro phobic who couldn’t leave the house, through fear, to attend their appointment, but was riding a camel, in Egypt, the week before.

 

The low level job centre staff might not be able to but the DWP itself can, and does, definitely use Facebook when conducting an investigation

Just the two months more behind bars for doing this. Had his license a matter of weeks too. There's something seriously wrong with the justice system in this country. No disputing the Barnsley fan deserved a punishment but how the **** has this lad got just two months more for what he's done to this poor lady.

Personally I don't think that's a reason to say her punishment was too harsh, I think it is simply that his wasn't harsh enough

 

Yep, I'm not disputing that mate, she deserves punishment, it clearly wasn't some spur of the moment thing as she carried it on for 8 years but
it makes me sick when I see stuff like this. He's ruined that poor lady's life and he's probably going to serve 12-14 months at the most before he's out on licence.
