Dave 'the Blunt' Bassett talks absolute *****

If you read his book he hasn't much positive to say about Barnsley

And as for a sleeping giant...........are we a smaller club than Fulham, Blackburn, Burnley, Bolton, Wigan, Portsmouth etc etc etc ???
And are we a smaller club than clubs that have been in the Premiership for years and now are in the lower leagues such as Charlton and Coventry ???

Bassett dosen't know what he's talking about because he dosent know the potential at Barnsley

Then again who does know the potential of a club thats got no history and had no continous level of success

I'm sorry but I think the article is drivel

I know where you are coming from, but do any Barnsley fans really claim we are "sleeping giants"? Is it really the case that "people at Barnsley have the same difficulties as Newcastle United fans"?

He may have had some valid points, but by using those 2 phrases the article loses any credibility it may otherwise have had.

"Sleeping Giants", was totally and utterly the wrong analogy.

    However, the premise is correct.

Barnsley fans, in general, believe we are bigger than we actually are. It's one thing 'having ambition' but it's a completely different thing being a 'realist'.

"5 years and we'll be in Europe"

Do you mean Doncaster Rovers? Now they really are sleeping giants :D

Is he basing this on when he was manager? Of course there was some expectation then - we got to the play off final ffs. Hardly think anyone has ever thought we were a sleeping giant though.

I'd say that we know we are a better club than the media and others give us credit for and yes we bang on about it but I don't think anyone believes we are anything like a sleeping giant. Most fans will be delighted with establishing what we were: being a strong second tier club with that outside chance of a challenge on the premiership

    Berties having another anorak moment

Just rubbing it in how well he did....we really didn't need reminding of a comparison between Davey and Bassett.

Correct. Bassett basing his opinion on the season of his demise

I've never heard any barnsley fan claim we were a top flight outfit nor ht we are a sleeping giant. Just a championship club, no more and no less.

He's correct about the number of managers though.

    "relegated so miserably"

    when was that dave?

The only miserable relegation I can remember was after we signed a **** load of crap on good long term contracts after letting good players walk

    I thought that...

He's made it sound like we ended up bottom of the league with about 4 points on the board.

    Harry sounds a bit bitter.
I can understand his disappointment at being sacked, a bit harsh at the time and we've never been higher since.

But to compare barnsley fans with newcastle fans...?

He's obviously still emotionally upset. Maybe he plans on suing us for causing him distress in this new blame-claim era we're in?

    Absolute tosh...Bassett

perhaps for 3-4 years after the prem he may have had an argument, but how the hell can not wanting to be involved in a relegation battle be confused with over the top aspirations. Rubbish Bassett.

What a load of crap, 99% of Barnsley fans would accept mid table next season.

    getting rid of Arjan

and replacing him with any of Keith Brown, David Tuttle and Steve Chettle - not one of Bassett's smarter moves.
