Then Bassett continued it...

But didn't Hendrie sign Hignett, who Bassett wanted shut of?

    I'll give you three then...

By taking us to Wembley ?

And him & Hignett got on just fine.

After Wembley it would have taken a miracle worker to get us back there given the constraints put on the manager.

We'd have been promoted straight back to the Premiership if Basset had been manager instead of Hendrie.

Ripped our squad apart - season starts with Ashley Ward & Jan Age up front and finishes with Karl Rose & Don Goodman.

I was 10 years old at the time mind. But I still remember him being ****.

    Bassett nearly sold Hignett...

I know that for a fact, to coin a phrase. He only did not as he had no other player to play on the wing. Then he started rattling in the goals.

They might have "got on", but he still wanted a player that would "track back" more.

Agreed it was hard but I don't think he should have ever have got the job.

Nowt Hendrie could have done about Wardy...

should have kept Jan Aage. There's no doubt that Hendrie was a mistake. Reagrdless of Wembley, Bassett was a ******.

Hmmm dunno about being a better club that given credit for. We are what we are which is a club thats JUST managed to stay up for 3 seasons running, struggles to attract players and has possibly one of the worst commercial operations in all the divisions.

    Agreed...

You have to have that belief you can do better.

    Otherwise, **** it off.

I hope that has changed this coming season and we believe in ourselves a little more...

RE: I thought we were very entertaining that year

Agree it was a very entertaining season and but for a missed penalty just before half time who knows where we would be now.

Before he changed his mind to sell him, yes..

a deal was lined up and the board blocked it....

Good old board eh ? Pity they weren't so football minded after Wembley.

It's just a pity that cos he's got a cockney accent and managed Sheff Utd we don't like Basset, when in fact he was one bright spot in a sea of ***** from Hendrie through to Glynn Hodges, without exception that in tandem with board decisions nigh on finished BFC.
