Interesting. Did they still play 3 at the back? Struggling to work out how exactly they lined up then 541?

This is about the best analysis I've seen of yesterday. Good to see a balanced rational view. Difficult for me to pass comment on whether we were or weren't pressing enough without seeing the replay, but I'm more willing to accept that there is some room for improvement in how we played than that it was irrational to change the formation.

Obviously with dropping Hourihane the onus was on the wide men to push up and provide support for Waring. I'm not surprised that didn't happen... We've not had enough out wide all season.

I'm surprised their manager said that - I'm not sure I've seen enough in our last two home performances for a team at the top of the division to be worried enough to change their game. Especially from our strikers.

I can't remember exactly how they lined up and what formation but the left-back Byrne (who also tore us a new one at Oakwell) was pressing very high up the pitch, and their other full-back scored the first I believe, so on that basis they will have been playing 3 at the back with wing-backs. They did however definitely play 1 up top. And I was also surprised at Cooper saying that, we've been solid but very unspectacular in our winning run at Oakwell.

Their gaffer says they changed their usual 3-5-2, to go 3-5-1-1 yesterday, in an effort to get their quality central midfielders on the ball more and nullify what he believed to be our key area - central midfield. I'm assuming he assumed we wouldn't drop our best player for an ungainly lad short on fitness/match practice.

The selection of Digby was bizarre and clearly backfired big style. The winger walzes round him leading to the first goal and then he gives away a penalty.
