a Dwayne Mattis equivalent We spent 50k on Mattis mate. Do you think we have players who are Championship standard? Well they all cost less than 500k matey!!! So you work it out eh??
£75k actually for Mattis, £25k extra when we stayed up ........... ........ and yes you can get Championship players for half a million but I think you miss my point, Howard is the captain and leading goalscorer, and has chance of getting 15 to 20 goals this season which will be vital. How many of the current squad will score that many goals, including the forwards? ...... answer = none, hence the need to buy a QUALITY replacement or two, if Howard goes, and they cost more than £500k!
RE: £75k actually for Mattis, £25k extra when we stayed up ........... Thanks for acknowledging Mattis was not a 500k signing. Yes I agree with you there. You make a good point. Obviously if we sell Howard we will not be able to replace him with some1 who is same standard for a 6th of the price. However we should be able to sign a player of enough quality to cover the position and survive in the Championship. The club making a decent profit along the way. Profit that could be used to help clear our debts.
RE: £75k actually for Mattis, £25k extra when we stayed up ........... You've hit on an interesting point there.
Debts vs On field progress. - The Yorks Post ran an article where Cryne rightly paid tribute to the BFC Board for reducing our debts. Now, if an opportunity came along to pretty much wipe them out altogether but it meant getting rid of our most creative player and thus setting us back quite a bit in terms of playing staff what will the board do ? Do they have the bottle to turn down a big money offer ? Granted every player has his price, and in Howard's case £3mill is the absolute bare minimum we ought to be asking for bearing in mind his value as a 1st team player to us.

SNAP THEIR HANDS OFF AT OWT NEAR £3M Bri may be on of our better players but he's far from the finished article, gives the ball away far too much and his decision making is poor. Admittadely stuff he'll learn but personally I think owt over a £1m would be worth taking.
And that (in my opinion) is precisely why .... clubs like ours will stay forever in the lower leagues. That's what happens. How many decent sides sell off their best players, get somebody cheaper, or nobody and end up performing tripe.
If you want to build and you want to perform, you have to draw a line somewhere and attempt to stay near the top. How would people have felt if we'd sold off the likes of Hendry and Marcelle during the promotion season? I'm not saying we're going to get promoted, but you have to try and stake your claim. The club, weunderstand, is on a decent financial footing, and can survive. If that's the case, why sell a bloody good asset. An asset who, if we continue to do well, may bring the crowds back to Oakwell.
Must middle to smaller size clubs forever exist to feed the big boys?

disagree £3Million is a lot of money to us as a club which I believe we would be foolish to turn down.. If the lad wants to better himself and we get a good deal for him then I for one would let him go....
If , and it's a big IF , A Premiership club offered £3m for Brian Howard , I think the club & player would find it very difficult to turn down the deal . Also , if we're asking that sort of transfer fee for one of our players , are we paying the sort of salary that goes along with the asking price ? It seems only fair to do so . Should Everton actually be one of the clubs who are interested in Brian , I wonder if a player-plus-cash deal involving Anderson De Silva would be on the cards ?
how do you know this? I thought the whole idea was that no one person owned the club and the ground so we couldn't get into a position like we did before PC. With the threat of selling up!
