I'm trying to understand the significance of selecting the 31st December 2016 in isolation.? If you wind forward to our final game of the season against Newcastle United on the 7th of May 2017 eight players still with the Club featured in that particular fixture. Six of those namely Davies, Jackson, MacDonald, Hedges, Moncur and Bradshaw were in the starting eleven. Of the remaining five starters Kent, Janko, Elder and James were on loan and Scowen has now gone. From the bench in that game Lee replaced Bradshaw after 54 minutes and Watkins replaced Hedges and R Williams replaced Kent on 74 mins. As we know Lee, Watkins and Williams have now left and two others Evans and Jones were loanees and didn't feature. Of the remaining subs Townsend and Mowatt both of whom also didn't feature are still with the Club. So from the final game of the season from May to two months later as I previously said eight of the squad that were named against Newcastle are still with the Club. Had he been fit it's highly likely that a ninth re- Yiadom would have probably been in the starting eleven.!
We all get it Conan, you are not happy at all with all things at Oakwell, you mention the team having to gell, but yesterday you were critical of the trip to Hungry which is clearly designed as a team bonding exercise but please tell us what would be the Conan blueprint for the immediate future, what would you do to improve things the Conan way ?
No idea why anyone would question the legitimacy of that opinion/view. And in particular, when it's been put across in an eloquent and reasonable manner. I've given my opinion already.
Day before the transfer window opened - when we the sold three of our most important players and didn't adequately replace them.
I think I've heard of it. I've also heard of the Taylor Report, The Sankey Commission and Enclosure Act. They're about as relevant to this debate.
i agree with conan, I mean how many of the playing staff that got us to the premier league are still playing for the club ?, i'll tell you NON, they should have been nailed down to life time contracts and we could have stopped recruiting altogether I mean that team was good enough to get us to the promised land, now that argument is as stupid as his. sometimes to progress you have to take a step back, reorganise, and consolidate, then you can move forward.. WHY IS IT THE SAME COUPLE OF PEOPLE THAT NO MATTER WHAT THE CLUB DOES, THEY JUST LOOK FOR THE SLIGHTEST THING TO CRITISE. picture the scene, next season we win the f.a. cup and get promoted, the next season we retain the cup, win the premiership and the league cup, and the Europe league, the season after triple again and the champions league so the club give all season ticket holders free air travel and tickets to the final, which we beat real madrid 3-0. interview with conan, well conan as the boards resident expert on everything what do you think. absolute ***** I couldn't get a window seat, the free lobster was cold and the champagne was warm.... the clubs ****
I haven't tried to claim anything. I've given my opinion that to you seems laced with blind faith. Whilst I have acknowledged your fears, accepted that viewpoint, I do not have to subscribe to the same way of dealing with it. I choose to see the positives in life. It's worked well for me.
It's undoubtedly a major pisser losing so many first teamers in such a short space of time, but at the end of the day, it's testament to the quality of our manager that we're in the position to make significant coin from rough diamonds. Long may he reign. Sent from my Lenovo TB-X103F using Tapatalk
Cheers, it was just an observation that it looks like heresy to some to be critical of the club's actions from time to time, and I know that there are some who go out their way to find fault, but the main protagonist of that is thankfully banned. I think at the end of the day we all want a successful team on the pitch.
If you look back to 2 seasons ago when we effectively started this plan, we signed the likes of Connor, Sam, Mawson, Marley, Robbo, Williams, it was a new team, from the lower leagues & replaced a lot of poor players, i mean a lot of poor players, the atmosphere around the club was poor, the football was poor & it was almost, why not give it a go, can't be as bad as it is now. Well it worked, probably faster & better than the club could ever imagine, people who were signed on 2 year deals served their time & moved on, they played their part in a very successful time for the club, players were sold at their peak for us & we have used the money to bring in replacements, who have just as much 'potential' if not more in some cases, we have spent more than we did last time & still have money spare, we now have them on 3 year deals, so effectively, if they prove to reach their full potential, we have 2 full seasons watching them before the dreaded 'last year of their contract' syndrome' The club lets a contract run to nothing & get criticised for not selling, sell & get criticised for not keeping, but i think they are learning, if we add to the squad over the next 2 seasons & replace the players who haven't quite made the grade, this will make the team stronger & in a better place to gradually lose players over the next 3 years. Every football club replace players each season to try & make their squad better, if we do this it will be hopefully to sell for big money to bigger clubs, making us more stable in the longer term. I agree there's been a big transition this time, but not many can argue with the players & potential the club have brought in, I am surprised we have got them all, which again is testament to how the club is viewed within the footballing world at present. Bring on the new season, bring on the new challenges, I for one can't wait.........
That team took two seasons to build though, and probably eighteen months to gel. It was added to, reduced, made worse and improved by trial error, to the point that by January 2017 we were seventh in the Championship. Those players have now almost all gone and we have replaced them with players unproven at this level and are being thrown in at the deep end.
Would you rather sell Mawson, Robbo, Connor & Sam or Dawson, Cranie, Perkins & Lita. This is the reality, come on man, we are much better off since we started the plan, the club has a future with up & coming players, worth money.
I expected us to struggle last season, even with the players that got us promoted, and also bearing in mind we lost a few prior to the season starting, but we didn't, we were a breath of fresh air to the championship. Granted we struggled since January, and don't start with have a team with promotion momentum like last time, but having so many new players we could again get off to a decent start as an unknown quantity. I'm going into the new season with an open mind and more excitement than concern. We start with a clean slate, and with some other clubs best players just like other clubs have taken ours. We could change the name of the board to "The Barnsley Fc Cynics Society", you would be in your element on there !
