Wow, thanks so much for posting this KT, didn't know there was any footage of this game, what a night, what an atmosphere.
Crazy that it looks like a bygone era and you remind yourself that you were there. You felt that you were part of something and your little investment in the club helped them. Then along came Jack Walker (Blackburn owner) and co and started buying the league, I reckon he started the rot.
Thank you for posting that. My second season and football seemed absolutely magical. My love for Barnsley will never change.
It was 6-2, Marlon. Boxing Day fixture. Clarkie got a hat trick. We celebrated by having a pint for each goal - which ended up including those scored by the visitors.
Thanks so much, Kendray. Just fantastic. To quote from Clarkie’s speech that night “This is what football’s all about”.
It was played in the snow wasn't it? It was a vicious winter that year. I think we only played about one game from the start of January to mid February.
Not sure mate, but don’t think so. But you’re right about the winter. Lots of postponements, which led to a huge fixture backlog and something like four games in a week towards the end. At the time, there were rumours of Clarkie doing whatever he could to get games postponed e.g. watering the pitch and letting it freeze. He knew we were better than most teams so wanted to play them when conditions allowed us to play our football.
Ahh. That last bit I've never heard before. Interesting. We were certainly capable of outplaying most teams that year.
840 views in just under 24 hours brilliant stuff. I've really enjoyed reading all comments and memories that's why I do it. It's hard work and time consuming but rewards are great. By that I mean getting it out there for all to see. Thank you all.
You do a fantastic job. All available footage of BFC should be stored safely for future generations. Imagine how interesting it would be to watch games featuring Taylor, Blanchflower, Kelly, McCormick etc for all of us who were never able to see them play. At least those who were too young to see Glavin, Aylott, Banks and the rest can get a feel for those players and the times they played in.
I belive so too. The club do a great job with the footage from around 2013/14 to the present but before that it's down to people like me. There is a huge amount of untapped footage out there that's just sitting gavering dust. For example the late Steve Rhodes recorded more or less everything between 1991-92 season to early 2000s I'd love to know (and gain) what's happened to it. I'll keep looking for stuff and publishing it until I'm satisfied there is no more.
I can well recall going down to help clear the pitch of snow... what a time to be a Red's fan! Great days back then
Me too. That was to try and get the Donny game on if I remember right and all volunteers got a complimentary ticket. When the game was eventually played I only went and forgot mine haha.
Just watched this again and it seems my hay fever may have started early this year. Either that or someone is peeling onions somewhere. Also made me think we need another manager like Clarkie - someone to come in, shake things up, bring a no nonsense and winning mentality and restore some pride.
