I enjoyed that. Maybe it's because I'm often doing something else while watching and not giving it my full attention, but I don't understand this 'boring football' narrative at all
Agreed. I would nt want it every time we play but that's how Wycombe set up. We proved we wanted it just as much as them, and our superior ability got us the win.
Very pleased to get 3 points from that. These are the games we so often struggle with, so it shows some progress we can grind them out. I really don't understand though why the manager thought the best way to do that was to play them at their own game - surely we have more faith in our own ability than that? Major positives: 1. The stats at the end showed we won 90% of tackles in defence. We proper grafted to make sure their game plan wouldn't work, and the major mistake we made (Halme for the pen) still only punished us because the ref didn't know the rules. 2. VI identified the need for more physicality early in the 2ndf half, and Victor did very well indeed when he came on. Have we learned owt today? Not for me. If we're going to play the way the manager wants us to, we need one or maybe two very physical forwards in January. And whilst results are what count, I'm really not enjoying the style of football we're playing of late. Hopefully it's a case of doing what we need to get the points on the board, so that we can gain some breathing space to develop the team and style in the future.
10 pts above relegation zone. Its weird bein a red looking down all the time at relegation zone rather than the fact we are closer to playoff positions.
Wycombe are by far the worst team in this league and we laboured to a narrow win, it doesn't bode well, but it's 3 points for now, could have been worse. All we can do is take that, move on, accept a scrappy 1-0 defeat from a scrappy goal off the ârse of the ref on Sat and then move on again........
I thought we played better against Bournemouth. Good win and was impressed with Frieser even though he could have saved my fingernails with his late miss. We rush too much up front. I don't think Valerie is kick and rush. He wants to play football at the right end of the pitch and quickly. Nowt wrong with that. The ball stuck better after the changes. I think the best front three is Woodrow, Adeboyejo and Frieser ( even though he's cack).
we rush too much up front exactly I have thought this for ages. If you watch prem teams they are so composed in and around the oppositions 18 yard box. Everything seems so frantic with us. It might just be the pace that the championship is played at but it certainly comes across as rushed to me
If the Christmas league table looks like it does now. I will have an extra crate in store and sit back and enjoy Christmas. Its been a while at this level since we all wasnt looking over our shoulder fearing relegation at Christmas time. I ain't saying its over. Im saying we can breathe and I really do trust this group.
Yes very scrappy, but we can only play against what's in front of us can't we. Ground out a vital 3 points, take them any way we can. Callum Styles the "Bury Baggio" provided the one moment of sheer quality on an otherwise scrappy game, so is my MOTM
Dead right, it was scrappy game of head tennis for long periods last night and the few bits of quality really stood out (the move that led to Frieser's shot being the best). Any team with any ambition has to be able to slug out games like that and grind out a result. Job done, now let's do it again on saturday.
A win is a win. Worth noting that Watford, Wednesday, Birmingham, Brentford, Huddersfield, Derby, and Preston have all failed to beat them in the last couple of months. They've become a difficult team to beat. Much rather play badly and win, than vice versa.
Very honest assessment from Wycombe Manager Gareth Ainsworth. https://the72.co.uk/205968/wycombe-wanderers-boss-rues-worst-performance-in-months-v-barnsley/
