Barnsley warn they will “not accept relegation” in furious letter to EFL

Think I’ve already mentioned about how I personally felt about the transfers etc. What I am saying is I do not believe the board thought they were jeopardising our Championship status, I never said I thought it was a realistic view for them to take, I was pointing out that because they thought it was and believed we would be at least ok, then their integrity is without question. Given that the EFL talk about integrity with promotion and relegation should the season end now, yet have, and continue to, witness clubs gain unfair advantages whilst cheating their FFP rules over clubs like ours. In summary my opinion is the board are right for challenging the EFL about playing the integrity card.

 

I would imagine that because it says in the EFL rule book FFP punishment has to be dealt with by the fourth Thursday in March and these ones weren’t is why he feels they have a case, because they haven’t upheld their own rules.

 

Because the rules to be in the league are clear, you have to be able to demonstrate the ability for the club to perform in a certain way, this includes grounds, club structure etc. It has nothing to do with suing the EFL.

Interestingly Gordon Strachan makes a relevant point today when he talks about Scottish clubs pretending to be professional when they are part time and pay £80 a week. A lot of teams in Scotland would not qualify as an EFL club as a result.

 

I’d say the key in all of this is that all we are doing is asking the EFL to administer in the way that were agreed upon and implement agreed rules not adding new rules. Americans are more litigatious than us but they wouldn’t go for it without a reasonable chance of success.

 

There is a very valid reason that the EPL can cite though, so I think it's the usual bluff from Conway. What's happened with the legal action against Hearts? Hull?

 

As much as I agree with the validity of the argument I can't see how applying the rightful punishments for Wednesday and Derby's cheating would save us. We're rock bottom and will go down regardless.

 

Someone corrected me last week for stating I think we should be relegated. Then went on to predict the points totals for the teams around us and had us relegated anyway. It's being seven points adrift that's fecked us this season. Even with points deductions we'd be down. Silly waste of money going to court. I think the league will give the club a sweetener anyway.

 

Personally I think its good to give the EFL a kick up the arse and not take the easy way out all the time. Nobody or no computer can possibly predict the outcomes of the remaining games either, its this time of year when nerves massively come into it not to mention the ratio of home games and what opposing teams have left to play for.
For instance would anybody have been really surprised if the lads from Bellend Rd had bottled it again?

They are clearly going for a sweetener as opposed to avoiding relegation.

Presumably they will accept either outcome - but are realistic enough to not expect to stay up, whether games are played or not; but are appealing against the hypocrisy and lack of applying its own rules by the efl. I think that is fair enough, and if the club is financially compensated off the back of this action then it is a job well done

For anyone outside the bottom 3. And the promoted teams laughing their tits off. The Stevenage guy hits the nail on the head and they’ve been deemed safe .

If the season is to complete then 2 things should be high on the agenda afore it starts. Points deductions and Diaby’s charge.

ps if you assume there will be play offs are you assuming Leeds and West Brom will win the automatic places. ?
