Your Wolves example

I'm sure I've read that Wolves have a £10k per player wage cap at the moment.

RE: Forgot which paper it was in

'Wolves will IGNORE its salary cap of £10,000 a week to keep stars like Wayne Hennessey and Karl Henry. (Daily Mirror)'

Meaning they have players who earn over £10,000 a week right?

(zzz)

That's right .........

....... was mentioned on TV after they clinched promotion - something along the lines that they were now going to have to revise their wage structure from a max of 10k, so that they could offer more lucrative contracts to their better players for next season so that they don't get poached by the big boys in the Prem

You'll notice the use of the word will

This indicates that they are talking about in the future. Had they ignored the £10k cap this year they would have used the word have.

What also hasn't been mentioned is Successful Tarn teams attract the crowds

I know they are mostly glory hunters. I know many ex regular fans, and others who who would go should they reach the Prem or even mount a genuine promo push.

I don't think rugby league players get paid that much

In fact I'm sure they don't.

excellent post.

No matter how much or how little we achieve, there's always somebody around the corner to take the good points for granted and focus on the mistakes by pointing out -
"ah, but if we did this differently...or that"

RE: Just like Burnley and Preston then

it's all very well quoting preston and burnley this season, as teams who finished higher than us, and suggesting we could do better....

But what have all the teams below got in common?

Colchester
Crewe
Millwall
Brighton
Gillingham
Rotherham
Norwich
Bradford
Walsall
MK Dons
Grimsby
Leeds
Plymouth
Charlton
Southampton
Scnuthorpe
Leicester

Wycombe
Port Vale
Brentford
Notts Co
Stockport
Peterborough
Swindon
Luton
Tranmere
Oldham
Bournemouth
Hartlepool
Huddersfield
Southend

They've all finished in a higher position than us at some point in the league (from 01/02) - BUT THEY ARE NOT NOW

What a defeatist attitude. How much have Burnley and Preston spent? Hull didn't exactly break the bank to get promoted did they?
Granted its not easy to attract the quality of players to the club but this is why you need a top manager. A Manager who knows the game inside out. A manager with contacts in the game. A manager who can inspire players to come to Barnsley and play for the shirt. Wilson did it.

there's also more quality players available and playing in the championship because they cant get in the premier league due to the international talent coming in. this has had a knock on effect right through all divisions. therefore you could argue we have more talent at our disposal than we did 10 years ago.

wilson did a great job.

he was also a bit fortunate with so many players hitting good form at the right time. John Hendrie was his best buy, but I think it was his mate p.wilkinson who convinced hendrie to come to barnsley.

so many factors came good for us at the right time.
