Thought he looked better going forward than defending. Held on to the ball too long at times and ran down a couple of blind ally's. But has good pace and is a tricky customer.. I'd say.. promising, especially if we're still in L1 next season.
Definitely shows promise. Think he tried too hard in some ways today, and defensively he needs to be more decisive but he's hardly had any match time for us.
Only player that caused them problems with the ball at his feet. A job that I thought Thomas would do when he came on but he didn’t try and take on a player at all today.
I'm a bit disappointed with Luke Thomas to be fair. Since his injury he just hasn't got going, although I prefer him wide in a front three, central it just doesn't work for me whatsoever.
He played well last week at MK dons but didn’t make any impression at all today and I thought he could cause Posh problems with it’s his pace and the amount of space they left in the middle of the park driving forward but he didn’t do it at all and again it’s why I don’t think we should renew his contract really. 4 years and never nailed down a place in the team.
Did he cause them problems though? He beat a player a few times and one good run in particular. But ultimately, he didn’t create any chances. Benson caused more problems with that one cross for the Tedic chance. And Cotter needs to show far more urgency in defence. He was just jogging towards their player in the lead up to the first goal. And there was a couple of times that Williams was dragged inside and cotter was nowhere to be found covering.
Yes he did. My post wasn’t anything to do with his defensive duties but he was our only player who they didn’t know how to deal with going forward. One of our very few bright sparks today going forward.
But they did deal with him, because he didn’t have the final pass or shot, at the end of his pieces of skill. If he adds that to his game, he’ll be some player.
Looks a real prospect but not sure it’ll be at RB. Beats people for fun but his defensive positioning is poor. Definitely a player there though and got confidence that Duff will bring it out.
It’s not splitting hairs, he didn’t create any chances. When he beat a man, he would often try to beat another and lose the ball. There’s a player in there, but he’s very raw still. He could be an excellent player, but he could be another Clarke Odour. I hope he gets a full pre season under Duff and develops more next season.
He has skills and attributes but it’s hard to say what he would add to a team - he’s very much a right sided Clarke Oduor. Ability, but no position. Can’t defend, and hasn’t got enough quality of final product to play further forward. He had Nicky Cadden on the other side of the park to take his lead on positionally and take his line; first half he was ten yards too deep when we had the ball and too far forward when we didn’t, then jogged back looking like he didn’t care. A touch of the Cavare’s. Their first goal, offside or not (i thought Williams played him on to be honest), he made no effort to close down then no effort to get up to block the ball in. He was equal in blame with Kitching, our captain marvel who decided to not bother sticking to the top scorer in the league at the back post but instead to go three yards inside him and jump under the ball, allowing him to control it and get a shot off seven yards out. Quality. No excuse for letting a forward take a touch then shoot nearly in the six yard box from a cross. You have to get close to him at least. But then I’ve never rated Kitching as highly as some do, he’s reigned in the hot headed stuff and played ok at times this season, but he always has a mistake in him. Every week. Sometimes a couple of inconsequential mishit long balls, sometimes more consequential things like today where he gave the first goal away then Fannie’s about on the ball, losing it, leading directly to the corner they scored the second from. But he’s the best we have for out there. As for Barry Cotter - like I say he has some attributes, but he is red raw, can’t really be trusted to be solid when needed, and if we need to play him in the playoffs I’d be hugely worried. Benson is streets ahead of him as reserve rwb and that isn’t exactly his position. He needs one on one coaching with someone, I can think of nobody better than Nicky Eaden, for a couple of weeks in the summer, to learn some positional awareness. I do fear though that he will never have the urgency and desire to make a quick covering run back when we lose possession and it’s required. To me he’s a winger with a trick but no game awareness, he’ll make a career out of the game but I’m not sure he’s good enough for this level and unlikely the next one up. But you never know, if he has the right attitude he could train on.
I was going to post a long post pointing out his errors yesterday but Troff’s put it better than I can. He was really poor yesterday but has some attributes that suggest he can be developed into a good player. I can’t believe some of you are criticising Williams & Phillips for criticising Cotter when there were several occasions when hun failing to press his man whilst the rest of the team did led to us been carved open. I also agree that if Williams wasn’t playing at right back that Benson would get the spot instead. I can’t see Duff trusting Cotter in a big game anytime soon after yesterday.
